San Diego Unified School District

Last week, the Department of Education and Department of Justice rescinded the federal guidance they released less than a year ago that instructed schools across the country on how to create welcoming, safe, and supportive school environments for transgender and gender nonconforming students.

San Diego Unified School District refuses to withdraw our commitment to the safety and dignity of our transgender students in accordance with the California School Success and Opportunity Act (enacted in January 2014) which ensures that schools allow transgender students access to facilities and extracurricular activities that align with their gender identity.

Therefore, transgender students in San Diego Unified will remain protected regardless of the new directive. San Diego Unified embraces all students and remains committed to affirming a safe learning environment for everyone.
