The Educational Employment Relations Act (EERA) guarantees public school employees, through their bargaining unit, the right to bargain with the District regarding wages, hours of employment, and other terms and conditions of employment.
Each collective bargaining agreement (aka union contract) is negotiated in good faith with the respective unit's negotiating team. All agreements are ratified by the employee association prior to being adopted by the Board of Education.
The Labor Relations team works with staff and departments throughout the organization to support with the implementation and administration of the collective bargaining agreements.
The primary functions of the Labor Relations Division are to:
- Represent the District in the collective bargaining process with employee bargaining units, and interpret and administer negotiated contracts.
- Support and advise administrators and managers on contract compliance and employer/employee relations.
- Hear formal employee grievances.
- Process requests from the bargaining units for release time.
- Facilitate requests for information from the bargaining units.
- Administer tuition reimbursement for relevant contracts.
Employee bargaining units the District works with are:
- Administrators Association of San Diego (AASD Certificated & AASD Classified)
- California School Employees Association (CSEA)
- Chapter 788 Office-Technical and Business Services (OTBS)
- Chapter 724 Operations-Support Services (OSS)
