Jackson

 

The Superintendent of the San Diego Unified School District is Dr. Lamont A. Jackson.

 

Dr. Jackson was named Superintendent on March 7, 2022 by the Board of Education, following a year-long, transparent superintendent recruitment and selection process shaped by public engagement.

 

A native of San Diego, Dr. Jackson began his career as an educator where he attended school as a child: in the San Diego Unified School District.

 

Lamont Jackson with graduateDuring his more than 30 years with the district, Dr. Jackson has held the position of teaching assistant, teacher and coach; principal of Montgomery, Challenger and Wangenheim Middle Schools; and Chief Human Resources Officer.

 

Most recently, Dr. Jackson served as Area 2 Superintendent overseeing schools in clusters for the Clairemont, Mira Mesa, Morse and University City Learning Communities.

 

Dr. Jackson has led a partnership with the San Diego Education Association to develop a new growth and development model for educator effectiveness and empowerment. He is passionate about collaborating with principals and teachers to improve student achievement.

 

Lamont Jackson selfie with childrenServing as a mentor for African American males has been a great source of pride for Dr. Jackson, who believes in a philosophy of opportunity, inclusion and equity. His desire to nurture all learners is fundamental to his work.

 

Dr. Jackson graduated from San Diego State University with a bachelor’s degree in sociology and social sciences. He also holds a master’s degree and a doctorate in philosophy in educational leadership from the University of San Diego. He lives in San Diego with his wife and two teenage sons.
