San Diego Unified to Honor 2018 Classified Employees of the Year
WHAT: California recognizes the important contributions of classified school employees by naming the third full week of May "Classified School Employee Week" to honor these contributions. Classified school employees play crucial roles in education. From transporting and feeding students to teaching them vital skills and ensuring that schools are operating smoothly, classified employees are integral to public education. The San Diego Unified Classified Employee event honors the district's 2018 Classified Employee of the Year, the Classified Employee of the Year Runner Up and more than 120 classified employees from individual schools and departments.

4:15 to 5 p.m. Reception
5 to 6:30 p.m. Classified Employees of the Year Celebration
WHERE: Patrick Henry High School, 6702 Wandermere Dr, 92120
ATTENDEES INCLUDE: Board of Education members, district leadership, school administrators, families and friends of classified employees being recognized, student performers from Mission Bay High School and entertainment by the Fat Shirley Band.
VISUALS: The district Classified Employee of the Year being honored with a video tribute, runner-up receiving special recognition and site classified employees of the year being recognized. Attendance is typically 200-250 people. Culinary students from Mira Mesa and San Diego high schools are prepping and serving food during the reception. The Gypsy Jazz Quartet from Mission Bay High School will provide entertainment during the reception. Piatt Pund, a member of the Gypsy Jazz Quartet will sing the National Anthem. The Fat Shirley Band will provide entertainment during the ceremony.
DETAILS: This year's Classified Employee of the Year is Barbara Buchanan, School Clerk, from Point Loma High School. This year's runner up is Rebecca Cisneros, Children's Center Clerk from Early Childhood Education and Euclid Elementary School. Click here for full bios and photos.
In addition to the ceremony, there is a reception that starts at 4:15 p.m. Students from San Diego Unified's award-winning culinary arts programs at Mira Mesa and San Diego high schools will be prepping and serving appetizers and desserts. The Gypsy Jazz Quartet from Mission Bay High School will provide music.
