Kumeyaay Elementary

As a way to kick off its week of kindness, Kumeyaay Elementary gathered all students for its annual rainbow picture and honored Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by selecting "love" as its theme for the week.

To promote equity and equality, the school selected a quote by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. "I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear."

The annual group photo, in which each grade level is represented by a different color, kicked off the school's participation in the 2017 Great Kindness Challenge. Kumeyaay joins hundreds of other schools by devoting one week to performing as many acts of kindness as possible on campus, at home, and in the community.

The Great Kindness Challenge was started by "Kids for Peace," a San Diego-based global nonprofit group, working to uplift our world through love and action. The Kumeyaay Spirit Club has multiple events planned throughout the year.

Kumeyaay has participated in the Great Kindness Challenge since 2012.
