BACKGROUND:
The purpose of the makerspace is to provide a collaborative work environment on campus designed to introduce San Diego Unified students to the process of making, building, creating, and innovating. The space is designed with industry in mind; by doing so, we hope to introduce students to 21st century careers in industry and technology.
The layout of the classroom reflects ideas from similar spaces in some of the hallmark companies of our time. With an open, clean, dynamic, and flexible layout, the makerspace will promote those same ideas in the work of the students in the classroom.
Students at Montgomery Middle and throughout the Kearny Cluster have the opportunity to experience a STEAM education at all levels. It's one of several clusters in the district that provide students with a continuity of educational supports in a particular field or industry from grades TK-12.
As the third-largest, non-government employer of STEM professionals, Siemens supports schools and aims to inspire the next generation of leaders to think big, explore the world, and learn to solve problems with critical thinking and collaboration.
