WHAT: Cabrillo Elementary School is celebrating the annual Read Across America Day with Dr. Seuss and the San Diego Seals lacrosse team. Families will participate and read to their students in classrooms. The school will gather in the auditorium for a reader's theater featuring fourth-graders. This year members of the San Diego Seals lacrosse team will serve as celebrity guest readers. Team members will read in classrooms for 15 minutes, and then switch classrooms for another 15 minute session. Afterwards, students and participants will gather in the lunch court and the students will each receive treat bags with Dr. Seuss pencil, eraser, notepad, a juice, and a snack.

WHEN: Friday, March 1, 2019, 9:00 - 10:20a.m.

WHERE: Cabrillo Elementary School, 3120 Talbot St., San Diego, 92106.

Background: Read Across America was created in 1997 by the National Education Association as a way to motivate students to read, expand student vocabulary and strengthen analytical thinking skills. Research has shown that students who read do better in school. Read Across America Day is a nationwide celebration that takes place on March 2, in conjunction with Dr. Seuss's birthday.
