Community Service Association (CSA)

Mission Statement

The Community Service Association of San Diego Unified School District is a nonprofit association organized to solicit contributions from district employees for recognized charitable agencies in San Diego County which support the arts, education, health, and human services.

*** CSA members please note for 2022 - 2023 Year:  Designated donations must be confirmed by the donor in writing each year in 2022 - 23 and going forward.  The form will be emailed to all donors in order to prompt you to fill it out and return it.  This is a return to our previous practice, but now with a friendly courtesy reminder!

Only for CSA members who designate a nonprofit:  If you designate a nonprofit to receive your contributions the designation amount and the nonprofit designated cannot be changed during the course of a school year, except to terminate the designation. This change is necessary to reduce the overhead costs of tracking designated donations. Thank you for your understanding.

If you don't designate a nonprofit you can change your contribution amount at any time.  ***

History of CSA

The Community Service Association (CSA) was organized as the result of meetings among employee organizations who felt the need for a contribution club similar to others in the city. A temporary Board of Directors met for the first time on February 6, 1956, and the San Diego Unified School District Community Service Association (CSA) was incorporated under the laws of the State of California as a nonprofit corporation.

Since the Association's inception in 1956, CSA members have donated over $12 million to support local nonprofits with a focus on diverse and equitable programs in the arts, education, health, and human services.

How to Join CSA

District employees can become CSA members by either:

- initiating a voluntary payroll deduction in PeopleSoft self-service, or

- completing a paper Payroll Deduction Form and sending via district interoffice mail to "CSA - Ed Center". Payroll deduction form is available here.

Employees may also designate a charity with a minimum contribution of $5 per month by filling out the form here and and sending via district interoffice mail to "CSA - Ed Center".  Designated donations must be confirmed by the donor in writing each year.

CSA membership at the requested amount will continue without further action.  Members wishing to change membership status or donation amount may voluntarily do so at any time.  If your donation is designated to a nonprofit, the amount and the nonprofit designated cannot be changed during the course of a school year, except to start or end a designation.
