RECENT UTK CHANGES
Recent changes were made to the class size requirements for our youngest UTK students. Impacted families were contacted directly. If you were one of these families and you are looking for more information about the changes and impacts, please read the 2023-24 UTK Class Size Changes FAQ.

Late applications will be processed in time/date order of receipt. Enrollment offers will be made to the closest school with space available.
Families that completed the UTK Pre-Enrollment Form between February 1 and February 28, 2023 will be notified by the school sites on or after April 3, 2023 to complete the enrollment process. Where space is available, Choice students will also be offered enrollment.
UNIVERSAL TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN
Universal Transitional Kindergarten is a new grade level preceding Kindergarten and it is open to all pupils turning 4 by September 1. Once parents complete the UTK application for their resident school for school year 2023-2024, parents will be contacted by the enrollment clerk at their resident school to complete the enrollment process. If space is not available at your resident school, NSEO staff will contact parents to offer a seat at the nearest school site with space availability.
Notes:
- The District also offers a Part-Day State-Subsidized Early Learning Program at 17 school sites and an Extended-Day Early Learning Program at Central Elementary for 3 and 4-year old children for qualifying families.
- Families that do not income-qualify for the State-Subsidized Preschool Program may be offered a seat at one of the School Readiness Programs at the following 6 school sites based on availability: Balboa, Ericson, Jones, Kumeyaay, Miller and Normal Heights.
- Children who turn 5 years old on or by September 1 are age-eligible for Kindergarten and will not be enrolled in UTK.
