WHAT: SeaWorld's Education & Conservation Department, in collaboration with the San Diego Unified School District and the San Diego Workforce Partnership, has developed a new program that will immerse middle school students into the heart and science of SeaWorld. Part of the Linked Learning and California Career Pathway Trust Initiatives, SeaWorld's Ocean Link Lab is a project-based learning experience focusing on the park's Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation Program. It allows students to develop an understanding of the life science sector through activities in the park, including topics such as water analysis, food supply and marine debris.
WHEN: Tuesday, December 12, 2017 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
VISUALS:Student interaction with animals, visit to SeaWorld's Animal Rescue Center,
student science stations: water analysis, food supply activity, animal observation, “Ocean of Opportunities” (career options at SeaWorld), marine debris art project (using found objects, students create art display that represents marine debris and then propose solutions)

DETAILS: The SeaWorld Ocean link lab provides San Diego Unified students a behind-the-scenes look at the SeaWorld cares rescue infrastructure and a glimpse of how human actions are impacting environments. This next generation science aligned with experience weaves throughout the park and touches on both 6th and 8th grade curriculum standards. In addition to the science, students will become aware of careers at SeaWorld, the collaborative effort needed to run the park and provided an opportunity to think about how their strengths, interests and values align to the future world of work.
