Students holding up a signNot even rain could dampen the spirits and message of the 40th annual Martin Luther King Jr. March at Knox Middle School.

Students from Knox, as well as Lincoln and Morse high schools and nearby elementary schools, participated in the program and March.

The event featured student performances and awards, and a reading of Dr. Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech. The formal program was followed by a march around the school's neighborhood.

Board Trustee Sharon Whitehurst-Payne served as Grand Marshal. Speakers included Knox Principal Heather Potter, Area 1 Superintendent Bruce Bivins, LaShae Collins from State Assembly member Shirley Weber's office, Matthew Gordon, representing Council President Myrtle Cole and Viet Mai, spoken word poet.
