Healthy Schools Program

The SDUSD Healthy Schools Program applies evidence-based Whole Child strategies to bring the District Wellness Policy to life and foster healthier school communities. To ensure compliance with federal and district requirements, all San Diego Unified schools establish site-based wellness committees annually to assess their site’s needs, create a plan of action and implement equitable solutions to promote a culture of health and wellness.

School Site Wellness Committee (SSWC)

A School Site Wellness Committee (SSWC) is a group of individuals who represent the school and community population. This can include teachers, counselors, school health personnel, administrators, food service staff, students, parents, and community members. The SSWC will represent, advise, advocate and take action in your school site’s health and wellness initiatives. School Site Wellness Committees do not have to be new committees; often schools have groups who already meet to address the health/wellness of students, staff, or the environment.

Looking for more information about your SSWC? Connect with your school to find out who is your school site Wellness Champion (a point of contact who is leading the SSWC) or reach out to our wellness team at [email protected].
