Common Scholarship Application

The San Diego Foundation 2024-2025 Common Scholarship Application deadline is two weeks away!

Among the more than 140 scholarships available, we have specific scholarship opportunities specific to majors, high schools, ethnicity and more.

A number of these scholarships do not have many applicants at this point, so we encourage you and your students to take a look at the opportunities listed below. Please spread the word to your students who meet any of these criteria.

Employment-Specific

Theo and Evelyn Yakel Scholarship 2024-25

  • Be graduating high school seniors who are children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of members of the Retired Employees of San Diego County, Inc. (RESDC)
  • Plan to enroll full-time at a community college or four-year university in the United States in fall
  • Have a cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale
  • Be United States citizens

Weissbuch Family Scholarship

  • Have resided in San Diego County for at least four years
  • Have graduated from a San Diego County high school and are already enrolled at UC San Diego in their freshman, sophomore or junior year
  • Be employed part-time
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale
  • Have a demonstrated financial need

Ethnicity-Specific

Riz Oades Memorial Scholarship

  • Be Filipino or Filipino American residents of San Diego County
  • Be currently attending a four-year undergraduate university or community college in San Diego County
  • Plan to attend a four-year undergraduate university, community college, or graduate school in San Diego County
  • Plan to major in Health Sciences, Public Health or Asian Studies
  • Have a cumulative unweighted GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale
  • Have demonstrated leadership at school or in their community
  • Have a demonstrated financial need

San Diego Unified School District

Dr. Bertha O. Pendleton Scholarship

  • Be African-American graduating high school seniors from San Diego Unified School District
  • Pursue a career in teaching
  • Plan to attend an accredited community college or four-year university in the United States in fall
  • Have a cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale
  • Have a strong record of responsible citizenship

Mark and Karla Stuart Family Scholarship

  • Graduating high school seniors from Mission Bay High School
  • Plan to attend an accredited community college or four-year university in the United States in fall
  • Have a cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale
  • Have a commitment to helping others and serving their community through their involvement in community service, academic clubs, sports, church or extra-curricular activities
  • Be United States citizens

Stuart L. Noderer Memorial Scholarship

  • Be graduating seniors at Mission Bay High School
  • Plan to enroll full-time at an accredited four-year university in the United States in fall
  • Have a cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale
  • Plan to declare a major in science (biology, chemistry, ecology, environmental science, geology, physics, etc.), engineering (including computer science) or architecture

Taylor Family Pacific Beach Community Fund #2 Scholarship

  • Be graduating seniors at Mission Bay High School or other public high school serving the Pacific Beach Community
  • Plan to attend a community college, 4-year university or vocational college in the United States in fall

School-Specific

The San Diego Foundation Scholarship I

  • Be graduating or previously graduated seniors from a San Diego County continuation high school
  • Plan to enroll or are currently enrolled at least part time at an accredited four-year university, community college, or licensed career/technical school in the United States in fall
  • Have a cumulative unweighted GPA of 2.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale
  • Have contributed to their community as demonstrated by their involvement in extra-curricular, work, religious or volunteer activities
  • Have a demonstrated financial need

Other Scholarships

Hindman Family Scholarship

  • Have resided in San Diego County for at least one year
  • Be graduating high school seniors who plan to attend a community college or career/technical school in San Diego County in fall
  • Have an unweighted GPA of 2.0 (min.) to 3.0 (max.) on a 4.0 scale
  • Have a demonstrated financial need
  • Have a demonstrated commitment to serving their community
  • Be United States citizens or permanent residents

The Lemon Grove Education Foundation Scholarship

  • Be graduating high school seniors or adults (ages 18 or over) who reside in Lemon Grove
  • Plan to attend an accredited four-year public university, community college, licensed career/ technical school or regional occupational program in San Diego County in fall
  • Have a cumulative unweighted GPA of 2.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale
  • Be United States citizens or permanent residents

Sean Maloy Community Service Scholarship

  • Be graduating high school seniors from St. Augustine High School, Academy of Our Lady of Peace, or reside in Scripps Ranch
  • Plan to enroll in an accredited four-year undergraduate university, community college or trade/ vocational school in the United States in fall
  • Have a cumulative unweighted GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale
  • Meaningful community service considered

Cal Coast Cares Foundation Application Period Now Open for 2024 Student Scholarships

Over $185,000 in student scholarships to be awarded this year.

SAN DIEGO – February 14, 2024 – The Cal Coast Cares Foundation will begin accepting applications for its next round of student scholarships February 1 through April 15 to support college-bound high school seniors, foster students and current college students in San Diego or Riverside counties. This year, the foundation will award over $185,000 in student scholarships.

The non-profit foundation will award $2,000 scholarships to selected students who are pursuing higher education and have a proven commitment to academic excellence and leadership in the community. Recipients of first-year foster student scholarships will also be eligible for second-year scholarships by continuing to meet the requirements.

Young Legislators Program Now Accepting Nominations!

OVERVIEW

The Young Legislators Program (YLP) is an educational program sponsored by the Office of Assembly member Akilah Weber, M.D. of the 79th Assembly District. The goal of the program is to equip our youth with the skills and knowledge to consider a career in government or public service, and an opportunity to learn about the state legislative process, current events, leadership development, financial literacy, and more.

The Young Legislators will meet for six monthly sessions from April through September, on the 4th Wednesdays from 5pm-7pm at our district office in La Mesa (unless otherwise noticed). At the end of the program, the Young Legislators will introduce a bill idea to Assembly member Weber.

SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Open to high school sophomores and juniors who live or attend school in the 79th Assembly District.
  • Must submit official high school transcript.
  • Must complete application form including short essays.
  • Must be able to commit to the scheduled sessions.

PROGRAM DATES:

  • Session #1: April 24, 2024
  • Session #2: May 22, 2024
  • Session #3: June 26, 2024
  • Session #4: July 24, 2024
  • Session #5: August 28, 2024
  • Session #6: September 25, 2024

You must submit your application by March 1, 2024 to be considered. Upon admission to the program, students must submit a participating agreement. We expect our Young Legislators to demonstrate characteristics for collaborative learning and integrity including adaptability, initiative, respect, and maturity. The attire for each session is business casual unless otherwise noted.

CGCS Bernard Harris Math and Science Scholarship Program | Applications now open!

The Council of the Great City Schools is partnering with Dr. Bernard Harris to offer the CGCS-Bernard Harris Math and Science Scholarships Program for high school seniors who are planning to major in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math).

Named after former astronaut, physician and businessman Bernard Harris, who was the first African American to walk in space, the scholarships are available to 2024 graduating seniors in urban school districts represented by the Council.

Four $5,000 scholarships for two males and two females each will be awarded to two African American and two Hispanic seniors pursuing studies in STEM-related fields in college next fall.

To apply for the 2024 scholarship, the application must be submitted online by April 12, 2024.

SDCOE My Voice Counts Series Session 3: CalKIDS "FREE Money for College"

Join the San Diego County Office of Education as we provide a virtual space for parents and community members to learn about CalKIDS. This informational webinar explains the CalKIDS program that will give free money to students to attend college. CalKIDS is a new program from the State of California that provides up to $1,500 in free money for college to eligible public-school students. The third session of the five-part series is scheduled for Wednesday, February 7th at 5:30 p.m. Please see the attached flyer for registration and workshop information. Translation/Interpretation is available. Please be sure to specify the language needed when completing the registration form.

THE 2024 DOWNTOWN SAN DIEGO LIONS CLUB SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION “WE SERVE!”

The Downtown San Diego Lions Club, through its Welfare Foundation, has scholarships available to students graduating from eight area high schools to assist with pursuing higher education in an undergraduate college or vocational school of their choice. Scholarships of $2,000 will be awarded to each student selected.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens or legal residents and are required to submit a copy of their alien registration identification card and write their registration number on the application form in the designated area.

Graduating seniors will be selected only from Hoover, Garfield, Kearny, Twain, Lincoln, San Diego, Monarch and Gompers High Schools. This scholarship is intended to assist graduating seniors from the geographical area of the Downtown San Diego Lions Club.

Applications submitted from students of other schools will not be considered.

Your completed application and all attachments must be submitted electronically as a single PDF by 12:00 pm Wednesday, March 13, 2024

Jeffrey D. Sollender College Scholarship

Recognizing Outstanding Teens excelling in entrepreneurial ventures, community service, or in the workplace

Up to $16,000 over four years will be awarded to each selected graduating high school senior in San Diego County who plans to attend a four-year college or university. Funds may be applied to college tuition, room and board, and fees

Eligible students must:

  • Demonstrate outstanding achievement in entrepreneurial ventures, community service or in the workplace.
  • Have a minimum 3.2/4.0 GPA
  • Have a gross family income of no more than $80,000 per year.
  • If applicable, provide a completed FAFSA or CA Dream Act and Student Aid Report (SAR).

The scholarship may be renewed based on eligibility, demonstrated need and funding availability. Students of all backgrounds and religions are encouraged to apply.

LEARN MORE ABOUT CALKIDS COLLEGE SAVINGS PROGRAM FEB. 7

CalKIDS is a new state program that provides a financial jumpstart to all children in California with free money for college.

To help families and others better understand the program and learn how to start saving for their student's college or career training, the San Diego County Office of Education is welcoming representatives from the State of California for a virtual webinar on Feb. 7. The webinar runs from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

CalKIDS stands for the California Kids Investment and Development Savings Program. It provides up to $1,500 in free money for college to eligible public school students. CalKIDS can help families boost their children's college savings and increase access to higher education.

CalKIDS children’s savings account program is administered by the ScholarShare Investment Board, an agency of the State of California chaired by the state treasurer.

Ten $1,000 Student Scholarships Available!

Region 18 of the Association of California School Administrators (San Diego and Imperial Counties) and the San Diego County School Boards Association are very pleased to offer ten $1,000 scholarships as a result of donations made by both organizations and our generous business partners.

Our scholarships provide an award for ten (10) public high school seniors who meet the following criteria: 

  1. pursuing a career in education as a teacher or other certificated employee.
  2. attend public high school in San Diego/Imperial Counties area.
  3. show proven academic success with at least a 3.3 cumulative grade point average.  
  4. are involved in community service.
  5. who may not necessarily qualify for other financial aid.

Inspiring Future Leaders STEM Scholarship Program

10 scholarships to be awarded to students who self-identify as a woman or person of color

SAN DIEGO, March 29, 2023 – High school and undergraduate students who reside in communities served by San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) are encouraged to apply for a $10,000 scholarship under a new initiative called the Inspiring Future Leaders STEM Scholarship Program. 

This initiative is specifically designed to support students of color, girls and women in high school or college who plan on pursuing a degree in a science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) or STEM-related course of study. Scholarship winners who maintain their eligibility and pursue their course of study in a traditional four-year university can have their scholarships renewed for an additional three years – meaning they could receive a total of $40,000 in financial aid.

The deadline to apply for this scholarship is April 27, 2023, 1p.m. Pacific Time.
