Barnard named a California Distinguished School
Mrs. Hernandez traveled to Anaheim on May 3 to accept Barnard's California Distinguished School award. The 2018 California Distinguished Schools Program recognizes California elementary schools that have made exceptional gains in implementing academic content and performance standards adopted by the State Board of Education.
After School Chess
On Sept. 15 Joshua, Giuseppe and Jaxon competed at the American Stars Scholastic Chess Tournament in Irvine. The boys took 1st and 2nd places. Special thanks to Coach Martin Nilsson from Chess Minds in Motion for his after school enrichment classes, tournament training and support.
California Distinguished School
Barnard Mandarin Magnet Elementary School is pleased to announce that we have been named a 2018 California Distinguished School. Congratulations to our students and staff.
Make Room for Another Chess Trophy
Congratulations to our Chess Team who just got back from San Jose where they participated in a US Chess Federation sponsored national chess championship tournament.These 4 second graders won the 3rd place team trophy for Barnard in the Age 8 and under section of the National Junior Chess Congress!!! It lasted 2 days (Saturday and Sunday) and the first day was brutal as our boys had to compete against players who had much higher ratings than them. Most of their opponents were part of the Top 200 8 year old chess players in the country! Special thanks to Martin Nilsson from Chess Minds in Motion for all the training and support!
2018 Chinese Bridge Competition
Congratulations to all Barnard Students who competed and took home trophies for their participation in the Chinese Bridge Competition. This is a yearly competition sponsored by the Confucius Institute at San Diego State. Also a big thank you to our teachers and parents who helped the students prepare. Everyone's hard work payed off.
Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss
Several of Barnard's students and staff dressed up as Dr. Seuss characters to celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday on Friday, March 2.
Primetime Applications
Applications will be available online beginning Monday, March 5, 2018 at 6:00 am and must be completed and submitted online by Friday, April 13, 2018 at 9:59 pm. Applications faxed;, e-mailed, mailed, or hand delivered will not be accepted.
CI Guest Teachers
We are so happy to have nine CI guest teachers this year to help with our Mandarin program as well as with all the Chinese celebrations we have throughout the year. We are grateful for everything they can teach us about their culture.
Parent Volunteers
Even though we are a Mandarin school, we also have Latin roots. Thank you to our parents and principal for all you do for our school.+
Welcome Wednesday
Join us the first Wednesday of each month for Welcome Wednesday. At 7:50 you will go into your children's classrooms and read with them. After that head to the auditorium for coffee with the principal.
