Barnard Mandarin Magnet Elementary School, along with the rest of our district, is closed due to the COVID 19 virus. We hope you are all safe and well and home with your families. For our students, distance learning will begin on April 6th and teachers will begin grading school work as of April 27. Please refer to the San Diego Schools Website, sandiegounified.org, for updates on the virus and to locate learning materials. Some teachers are already doing online classes with their students. If your teacher has not, he or she will be in touch very soon. Stay well.
Congratulations to our Barnard students who took 1st, 2nd, or 3rd prizes in the China Bridge Competition at Mission Bay High School on March 12th. Congratulations to Ema, Layla, Edward, Alarycia, Dominique, and Aian Eoin. We're so proud of all of you who participated.
Students at Barnard celebrated Chinese New Year with performances for their families in the auditorium. They rehearsed for several weeks ahead of time to be ready for the big day.
On Wednesday, December 11 our PTA hosted our annual jog-a-thon, called the hog-a-thon in deference to the Chinese Year of the Pig. The challenge was that if they met their fundraising goal of $40,000 Principal Hernandez would kiss a pig. Unfortunately Mrs. Hernandez couldn't be present on the day the pig visited so Coach MJ puckered up and kissed the pig. The students loved it. Thank you to all the families who volunteered their time and money to make this such a successful event.
