***** IF YOU WILL BE ABSENT FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS PLEASE SEND A SIBLING TO PICK UP A PACKET OR I CAN LEAVE ONE AT THE FRONT DESK TO BE PICKED UP.

Welcome to Zamorano!!!! I am delighted that your child is in my class.

ATTENDANCE
In order for your child to benefit from school, daily attendance is essential. I appreciate students being to school on time, coming to school regularly, and having a positive attitudes. Being unexcused from school three days will result in truancy and may subject both parent and/or student to prosecution with the court. Tardiness will also be closely monitored. Students with an unexcused tardy will be sent to the tardy tables at recess. Please sign and return tardy slips the following day. Students will be rewarded with perfect attendance monthly.

ABSENCES/ ILLNESSES
Students who are absent from school are required to make up work missed. Spelling words can be accessed on-line. Please send a sibling or pick up homework packets from school. It is the student's responsibility to get their packets upon returning to school. Extra time may be given for completing packets due to a long absence. Extended absences must be prearranged with the attendance office. Homework packets will be issued. Work must be turned into the attendance office upon returning to school.

DISCIPLINE
Our school has a firm yet fair discipline plan. We expect all students to be safe at all times. We expect courtesy, consideration of others, and mutual respect to be key elements of behavior.

During the first week of school our class will come up with our own classroom agreements. The classroom agreements will focus on teamwork, being nice to one another, and being safe in the classroom. Each student will be held accountable to the classroom agreements.

Students who meet their goals will receive good citizenship grades and rewards. If your child has difficulty following the classroom agreements they will have to write a letter home. It is important to sign and return the letter the next day. If the letter is not returned the following day your child will lose their recess. I WILL ALWAYS CALL IF I FEEL IT IS APPROPRIATE.

*** Always feel free to call or e-mail me at anytime.

GRADING
My grading is strict but fair. Your child will be expected to complete and turn in assignments on time. Our curriculum is rigorous and is in line with the California State Standards. If your child is in line with the standards and excels above standards expect excellent scores (proficient and advanced). If your child is in line with the standards expect basic grades. If your child is not in line with the standards expect below basic grades.
***TEAMWORK IS KEY FOR THE SUCCESS OF YOUR CHILD!

HOME EDUCATION
A home education letter will be sent home EVERY Monday. This letter will describe your child's homework for the week. Please make sure to read the message at the end of the letter, this will give you important information for the week. Please monitor your child and remind them that their homework is due EVERY Friday. Homework reinforces what we have been learning in class. One of our classroom goals is to become excellent readers. In order to become excellent readers students must read daily at school and at home. Homework should take 30 minutes with a MINIMUM of 15 minutes for reading.
