Science Olympiad students participate in exciting, challenging and fun events to learn scientific problem solving in a team environment. Wilson students will choose event categories and then prepare to conduct experiments, solve problems, design and build instruments and show off how much they’ve practiced and learned in competitive scientific tasks! The San Diego County SO Competition is held on a Saturday in February at Rancho Bernardo High School and Rancho Bernardo Middle School.
As part of a 2-3 person team per event students have opportunities to engage in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) related Science tasks that foster critical thinking and problem solving skills. Wilson students will be able to apply the knowledge outside of the classroom in events such as learning how to use a microscope and other scientific equipment, design and build a helicopter that will fly longer than your competitors, conduct forensic investigations and experiments to solve a crime.
Science Olympiad wants to thank staff members that have contributed their generous donations to our club. Over the winter break our club was able to raise over $500 that paid for the T-shirts and will pay for the food for the event competition day. Trust me these teenagers can EAT!
Students are excited and gearing up for the competition that will take place at Carlsbad high school on February 20th. 6th graders and some new students that join this year will have their first experience competing in engineering and test events. We are the only urban middle school south of the 8 that attends this event so it's a wonderful opportunity for students to get exposed to Science!
Thank you for your continued support. After the event we will begin our fundraising once again to continue to fund our program for years to come. If you want to donate please make checks payable to Wilson Middle School Science Olympiad and give the check to Irma our new financial clerk. These funds pay for registration costs. consumable materials students need to use for their build events, recruitment of parents, engineers, and other to help support the 26 different events students prepare for, and other related cost associated with maintaining the team!
If you like to come out to show your support for the team the address of the school is 3557 Monroe St. 92008. Our base camp will be near the Lancer Gym. We will be at the competition from 7am - 4. Hope to see you there!! More Regional Competition information here!
