Welcome to Wilson Middle School! The community surrounding the school is densely populated with older, single-family houses, apartments, and small businesses. Our school features award-winning teachers and resource centers equipped with current curricular materials. Our mission is to provide a positive, integrated, and student-centered program to ease the transition from elementary to high school. We focus on academic achievement, principal social skills, and discipline. The staff encourages students to become literate, thinking individuals with strong self-esteem and multicultural sensitivity.  Our Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) scores have shown recent gains in English language arts, science, history – social studies, and Algebra I. We will continue to focus on improving our students’ academic achievement in all areas. Our Advancement via Individual Determination (AVID) program was recognized for its excellent work, enabling us to become a national AVID demonstration school. We also added more social services to our Wilson Family Resource Center, contributing to the success and well-being of our students. Wilson continues to place the support of our students’ academic and socio-emotional success as a school focus.

Opportunities for Parent Involvement

Parents have many opportunities to be involved at their children’s school site   (for example, governance committees, special events, fundraising events, parent organizations, and in classrooms) and at the district level (for example, district councils / committees, Parent University, and special events). We also encourage parents to support their children at home by making their expectations about school clear and creating a positive homework and learning environment. At Wilson Middle we are committed to obtaining community resources for our school and invite all constituencies to assist us in the education of our students. Parent involvement and communication are very important at Wilson. Parents are offered volunteer opportunities, workshops, and leadership roles via our parent center. Our parents actively participate in the school’s Site Governance Team and School Site Council, the District Advisory Committee, and District English Learner Advisory Committee.
