UCHS Summer Update (07-14-2019)
Good evening Centurions! We hope you are enjoying your summer break.
This coming week is an important one for some of our Centurions. While 400 of our students have already turned in their packet information, this coming week, Tuesday, July 16th, and Wednesday, July 17th, from the hours of 8:00 am to 11:00 am, we will be holding early registration for two specific groups of students.
On Tuesday, we would like to see our band, athletes, and ASB students come in to turn in their packet information, take their school photo, and pay for items students may need: ASB card, yearbook, PE clothes, etc. On Wednesday, we would like to see our CSF, Cheerleaders, MJROTC, and yearbook students to do the same. To help the flow of lines on these two days, we ask that students with the last names of A-F come at 8am, G-M come at 9am, and N-Z come at 10am.
For Tuesdays and Wednesdays registration process, any student who already has turned in their packet information may stop by school after 11 am and take their school photo and get their school ID card. The photographer will be at school until 2:00 pm each day.
And last, if you are a new incoming 9th grade student who did not attend Standley Middle School last year, and you are scheduled for one of these two days of registration, and you took Spanish 1-2 and 3-4 last year, we strongly encourage you to take our Spanish language placement assessment while at school on Tuesday or Wednesday. Very often we get students from other middle schools and they did not have as rigorous and demanding curriculum and while students seem to ready for the next level, they really are not. Our placement screening can really help filter students to make sure they are properly placed. In some instances, students should be moved up and in some cases moved down. . All should know that once school starts, the ability to move students to other classes is almost impossible. The test takes about 35 minutes.
Also for new incoming 9th grade students who did not attend Standley Middle School last year, and you are scheduled for this week’s registration, we think you should take our math placement assessment. Again, we want to make sure students are properly placed based on their math skills and understanding because once school starts, changing math levels is not likely given classes are full. This assessment will also be given Tuesday and Wednesday from 8am to 11am. The test takes 40 minutes.
Please know Tuesday and Wednesday is offered for a certain group of students. We will have the same registration process August 14th through August 19th, with the same Spanish and math assessments for 9th graders on August 19th.
Hopefully I have not confused everyone. Please read your packet information. And, if you have not picked up your packet, please come by school and get it!!!
I will see some of you this week. Miss our Cents! Have a good night,
