UCHS Start of School Update (08-12-2018)
Good evening Centurion students and parents, this is Principal Olivero here from UCHS calling you to give you some school updates. I am not sure if you heard but our esteemed Vice Principal Mike Paredes, better known as Mr. P., has been selected to be the new principal of The Monarch School. The Monarch School is a K-12 school designed to support students who are temporarily homeless and in transition. We are saddened by Mr. P.’s departure, but equally excited for his new school. Mr. P. was a tremendous administrator, colleague, supporter and friend to us all. We will miss him. In September, we will have him back, during a particular lunch, to express our appreciation and to say congratulations. I will share what day this will be in the coming weeks.
Shifting to school start up news:
We have our first home football game Friday night, August 17th, in our stadium.
On Monday and Tuesday, August 20th and 21st, we will have fall registration for students to turn in their registration packets, take their photo ID, and buy ASB cards. On the 20th, we will see our juniors from 8:30am -10:30am. We will see our seniors from 10:30am-12:30pm. On the 21st, we will see our sophomores from 8:30am-10:30am. We will see our freshmen from 10:30am-12:30pmm.
During our the fall registrations, new incoming students who did not attend Standley Middle School, can take a Spanish and math assessment to make sure we are properly placing students in the right level for their fall classes. We encourage all new students to stay to take these placements exams.
On Wednesday, August 22nd, all Centurion staff will return back to work to set up for the start of school.
On Thursday night, August 23rd, we host our annual new student/parent orientation meeting in the gym. This is a must do event for all new students and parents starting UCHS. More information will be sent out regarding this evening in a future callout. Please reserve this night with us.
On Saturday, August 25th, from 9-11am, we will hold our annual campus beautification day. This is a day designed to bring together all booster clubs, all programs, all students, and all parents to help pick up around school. We will sweep, pick up trash and pick weeds. I know this does not sound like an exciting morning to spend at school, however, we believe students learn and appreciate what they have when they put some skin into it. Part of school pride is owning what you have. More details on this later, but please calendar this important activity for our school start.
Speaking of which, school starts on Monday, August 27th.
See you all very soon, Mr. O.
