Senior Celebration Information (Saturday, June 6, 2020)
Hello seniors and parents,
I know many have been asking about the plan for June 9th celebration, so here are the details. Please know that the idea behind the senior celebration is to not go over the top as this can minimize the importance of an actual graduation in the summer. On the other hand, our seniors did miss their prom, the Disneyland trip, senior dinner and senior movie night, parking lot party, etc. so with that in mind, let’s clap it up and have some fun when they come by on June 9th!
At 12 p.m. we plan to post the “Senior Online Celebration” to the school website. At 2 p.m. we will begin the school visit part of the senior celebration. For the on-campus celebration, the plan is to allow both drive through and walk ups for our seniors and their parents.
If you are arriving by vehicle:
· Each senior is allowed one vehicle ONLY for them and their family and friends.
· Enter at the traffic light and stay in the right-hand lane. Drive up the campus hugging the outside curb to the right all the way up past the cattle gate and to the right to eventually get to the tennis courts parking area.
· Cars will then make a left and stay alongside the sidewalk curb that runs next to the school gym and 400 and 600 buildings. The idea here is to maximize the number of cars in the lot in line while not having cars out on Genesee Ave.
If a senior is walking up with their family:
· Please enter via the cattle gate by the marquee.
· From there they will walk up to join the procession of cars that will start alongside the curb of sidewalk along the outside of the gym.
Below are the time frames for arriving at school on Tuesday, June 9th. Please know it is supposed to be hot that day.
A-CAR 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM
CAS-HAM 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM
HAN-MC 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM
ME-SAM 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM
SAN-Z 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM
We encourage all seniors to wear their cap and gowns. While guests are not allowed out of their vehicles, seniors will be able to get out of their car and take pictures in front of a UC Step and Repeat banner. The senior will then continue walking with their car and family next to them taking pictures of their grad as they will eventually stop at the next station where they will be greeted by the administrative team and counselors.
At this point we will be giving out diplomas for students who purchased their caps and gowns. We will also be giving out diplomas for students who are turning in their rented cap and gowns and do not plan to participate in a summer graduation. These students will drive over to the bus lanes and turn in their cap and gown and will receive their diplomas there. For students who have rented a gown and plan to attend the summer graduation, we will be clapping it up for them, but we will hanging on to these diplomas until the summer graduation event.
I’ve been asked, can we decorate our cars? The answer is YES! It is not a competition, but feel free to celebrate your student with vehicle decor. It’s been 12 years of schooling and our seniors have missed much over the last few months. We want to acknowledge and celebrate them as a school community by letting others know we have a 2020 grad in the car!
Please know again that when we normally hold these types of events, we have ASB support and volunteer support. Due to public health guidelines, these support people are not permitted on campus so we will have a limited crew, but will do our best to clap it up for our seniors and their families.
We look forward to seeing our seniors and their families on Tuesday, June 9th. We hope you can come by the school! Mr. O.
