School Update 9-6-2016

Get Involved and Stay Informed (09-6-2016)

Good evening, Principal Olivero here with your weekly update.  It was Tiki Day at UCHS today.  Tomorrow is western day. Thursday is wear your favorite jersey day.  And capping off spirit week will be Friday’s Red, White and Blue day.

Please know this will be a long message as we have a lot to share for this week.

Please know that every Wednesday will be an early out day for students unless posted otherwise.  Dismissal time is 12:59 PM.

Please get your calendars out as we have three important dates to make you aware.

On Friday, September 9th at 7:20 am, we will have the first PTSA meeting of the school year, followed by the Principal’s Chat.  We hope you can make it to these monthly meetings as they are informative for our parents.  Please know that we will have an interpreter for our Spanish speaking parents at these meetings.  The meeting will be held in the media center.

On Friday, September 16th, ASB will be holding their Club Rush event at lunch.  This is a chance for students to join one of 63 clubs on campus.  We believe at UCHS that all students need to join and participate in an extracurricular group on campus.  It makes school more enjoyable and is a great way to meet friends with common interests.  So be ready Cents, Club Rush is coming!

On Thursday, September 22nd, UCHS will hold it’s annul Back-to-School Night.  More details will follow but wanted to get this date out in front of you to be at school this night.

Shifting gears to the school’s needs for student and parent representatives:

Student and parent representatives are needed for the School Site Council (SSC) and School Site Governance Team (SSGT).

Student and parent representatives are needed to serve on the School Site Council (SSC). The SSC is an elected, shared decision-making group comprised of parents, community members, site administrators, teachers, staff, and students.  The SSC meets six times during the school year. Responsibilities of this group include overseeing categorical dollars the school receives as well as overseeing the Single Plan for Student Achievement.  UCHS needs one (1) parent representative and one (1) student to serve on the SSC.

UCHS is also seeking one (1) parent and three (3) student representatives for the School's Site Governance Team (SSGT).  Once a month after school, the SSGT discusses a number of hot topics that directly impacts the life of students and parents on campus, such as school rules, Saturday School, and dance etiquette, etc.  Members also advise the principal on how to best use the school site funds to support teaching and learning.

If you wish to serve on one of these two groups, please send an email to Lucy Alonzo at lalonzo@sandi.net by Friday, September 9, 2016.

Ending on a “Clap it Up” note, as shared it’s spirit week and the final conclusion is highlighting the school’s first home football game here on Friday night.  We hope everyone will come as the Centurions host the Scripps Ranch.  Your Centurions are off to a fast start and come into the game 2-0.  Kickoff is at 6:30 pm.  All students are free if they have an ASB card.  Hope to see you at the game!
