School Update (05-30-2018)
Principal Olivero here with a school update.
I want to congratulate our Class of 2018 for a terrific prom. It was held at the zoo and everyone had a fantastic time. As I have shared in a few callouts to our senior parents, the Class of 2018 is shaping up to be the best class I have had as a school principal. We really have some outstanding young adults.
Speaking of 12th graders, if your senior plans to attend a community college next year, they have the opportunity to attend for free. There will be a meeting held during school on Thursday, June 7th, where they will learn about the paperwork needed under what is called the Senior Promise. Seniors, stay tuned for the when and where for this meeting.
Friday, June 1st, will be our last block schedule day. Yippy!!
Just to let everyone know, we had scheduled with the Centurion Foundation to again have an on-campus day to have doctors come in to complete needed physicals for athletic participation for next year. This was supposed to happen on Tuesday, June 5th. We recently learned, however, the doctors who were planned to do the event can’t make it. As a result, all student athletes will have to have their own doctors provide their physical checkup. As an option, in conjunction with San Diego Unified School District, UCSD doctors have agreed to provide free sports physicals at Hoover High School on Saturday, June 9th. Please see the flyer posted on our website that provides information for when and what to bring on June 9th for sports physicals.
Last, a construction update: we thank everyone for their flexibility during our remodel in the front office and on campus. Over the summer we are scheduled to have a number of projects completed: 1) The gym foyer should be done just prior to the last day of school; 2) They will be putting in new bleachers in the gym that has a motorized system for moving them in and out; 3) They plan to lay new cement in certain areas of the quad which includes new cement benches around the grass bowl area; 4) They will be tearing out and putting in new asphalt along the back road area behind the cafeteria; 5) They will be putting in handicap seating in the auditorium, new carpet, and ADA upgrades in student bathrooms.
