Get Involved and Stay Informed (04-19-2016)
Good evening, Principal Olivero here with your weekly school update.
I am not sure if you were able to get see one of the shows at UC last week, but it was a major success. Great directing, acting, singing, stage work and live music! It was really something. Thank you goes to Mr. Moody and Mr. Corenman and to all the kids. Outstanding work!
Spring has sprung! With morning traffic challenges everyone does a pretty good job. However, it’s becoming more apparent that folks are arriving later and later. I actually saw some students in their parent’s car waiting to be dropped off at the curb by the 400 building. This made them late to class. Students could have gotten out earlier and walked the extra 30 steps and made it to class on time. Just saying!
Get your planner as I have some dates to share. First, for seniors and their parents, on the evening of Tuesday, April 26, 2016, Mira Mar Community College at 6 pm to 8:30 pm invites you to their “Get Your Bearings” event held for incoming students that will be attending Mira Mar College in the fall.
Second, the annual dance recital is coming up at the end of the month. Because it has become so popular, dance groups will perform on Thursday, April 28th and Friday, April 29th. Tickets will be $5 dollars.
Third, The Taste of The Triangle is scheduled for Friday, May 6th. For those not familiar with the EdUCate’s event, local restaurants and food vendors donate their services to make wonderful eats and drinks. Additionally, there are many items being raffled. It is always a great evening created to raise money for the UC schools in the community. We would ask that all of you consider attending this event on behalf of our students. It’s a lot of fun and this year’s theme is A Night in Monte Carlo. The guest emcee will be University City’s own Emmy-winning TV personality, Fred Saxon. Fred has more than 25 years experience in Hollywood and has won two Emmys for his television career. Please visit the school website (EdUCate) to reserve your ticket.
Today, the US News Report came out which seeks to rank high schools in the country and by state. UC U-Know scored #536 out of 28,561 public high schools in the nation. In the state, UCHS was #90 out of 2,199. For those keeping doing the math, that’s in the top 2% in the country and the top 4% in the state. Clap it up!!!
Have a great evening and we hope to see you all this week. – Mr. O.
