School Update (3-8-2016)

Get Involved and Stay Informed (03-08-2016)

Good evening, Principal Olivero here with your weekly school update.

Please know that Wednesday, March 16, will be a full day of instruction.  Again, next Wednesday, will be a full day of instruction.

Tomorrow night, Wednesday, March 9th, at 7 PM, the Music Department will hold their annual Spring Concert.  Come enjoy an evening of festival music from the UCHS choir, orchestra and band.

Thursday night is a big night for our Academic League Team as they take on a tough La Jolla High School Team.  The UCHS team is on a roll as they have won their last three straight competitions.  All are invited as we host the Viking’s varsity team at 8PM in the media center.

Parents, we have high expectations for students enrolled in AP classes and encourage all students to take their exams in May.  Increasingly, colleges and universities are checking school records to verify whether students took an AP exam in the class in which they received weighted credit.  In order to be eligible for the tests, AP exams need to be ordered and paid for in advance.  The deadline is Friday, March 18thAPTS will be on our campus during lunch on March 15 to accept cash or check payments.  Please use the school website to pay for the exams.

Saturday night, March 12th, the school will host the Sadie Hawkins Dance at the Ruben H. Fleet Museum.  The dance will start at 7 PM and let out at 11 PM.

Friday night, March 25th, at 6 PM, the Music Boosters will be holding their Sights and Sounds Showcase- A Musical Journey Featuring Students, Staff and Special Friends.  The event is a fundraiser for our award winning program and we ask interested students and parents consider attending.

As a Clap it Up for our students, last Friday, our Music Groups both took “superior” ratings for their first event- a great start for their competition season. On Saturday, the JROTC team took first place overall out of 12 teams in the MJROTC Cadet Fitness Challenge.  Given the fact the team already won first place in the academic bowl, this means our students are not only smart, they are fit! And last, the school’s Color Guard took 2nd place overall out of 11 teams from Division A at the Mira Mesa High School show.

Finally, as a reminder, the UC Spirit (fun) Run will be held Saturday, April 16, 2016.

The cost for a student to run is $20, which includes a shirt if they register before April 1st.  Adults and community members cost is $25, and they too will receive a shirt if registered before April 1st.   Unlike other year, the funds raised this will go towards supporting our school teams and programs on campus.  In other words, this is designed to be a fun day that promotes fitness, while also being a means for teams/clubs to raise needed money for their programs. We thankthe Centurion Foundation for organizing this 3rd annual event for the entire UC community.

Have a great week!

Mr. O.
