School Update (12-19-2019)
Principal Olivero here with the final school update for the 2019 school year. As most of you know, the last day of school for 2019 will be tomorrow, December 20, 2019, and school will resume Monday, January 6, 2020.
On Tuesday night, around 40 parents gathered to talk about how the school/district/police handle threats to students and the school. We appreciate those who made it out to provide us feedback. Today, students in their period four class received a message from me regarding the events from last week. Part of the message included the need for students to say something if they hear something. This can be to a trusted adult on campus, a school official, or a parent. We also have a phone hotline number offered through Crime Stoppers called: Students Speak Out. My note to students today also included the opportunity for them to speak with one of our campus counselors should they need further support and to assist them in processing their feelings safety at school and in society in general.
I have posted the message sent to students and it is located on our website under School News.
Shifting gears and looking ahead to when we return in January, it will be a very busy January.
Already scheduled earlier in year, on Wednesday, January 8th, staff will be hear a presentation on Trauma Care Prevention. We hear other schools have gone through these trainings and they felt they were informative and useful. There will be a total of three trainings for staff over the next five months.
On Thursday, January 9th, at 2:30 pm, I will be guiding a conversation with all interested stakeholders in looking at the District’s vision for 2030. Many may have heard of Vision 20/20 and now this is an opportunity to help shape what it will look like for schools and students in 2030. Part of this process will allow students, staff, and parents to complete a google doc survey that will go to district staff and they will be use it with BOE members to shape the future vision for our school district. This meeting will be held in the media center.
This same day Thursday night, January 9th, C-21 parents will meet with our counselors to go over course selections for the 2020-21 school year. More information will be provided, but we ask the parents of our juniors save the date for this important school night event.
We wish all of our Centurions and their families the very best this holiday season. Have a great break and we will see you back Monday, January 6th.
