Good evening...Principal Olivero here with some school updates:
I am following up on the social media threats and rumors that I made you aware of last week.I also want to thank everyone for their vigilance to our “See Something, Say Something” initiative.
I want to assure our families that following an investigation, which included multiple interviews and home visits, School Police and SDPD assured me that there were/are no substantial threats to our school and we need students back in classes. If your student was absent from school Friday because they were worried about their safety, please check PowerSchool to confirm the absence has been cleared. If it hasn’t been cleared, please call or email the Attendance Office. Please know that students will not be penalized for assignments/tests missed if they were absent.
We will hold a student/parent meeting Tuesday night in the media center at 6:30 pm. We hope all families will attend as we think it’s an opportunity to educate everyone how the school, school police, and SDPD handle these types of rumors and potential threats. Spanish translation services will be provided. We also want students to understand the importance of reporting potential threats or concerns they might have to school officials or a trusted adult in lieu of sharing amongst themselves or via social media. We also want students to be aware of the consequences of making threats. Students and parents should know there is an anonymous hotline number for Crime Stoppers: 888-580-8477.
As you know, here at UCHS we believe in communicating openly and honestly with students, staff and parents about all incidents that affect our campus.I will be sending out another call out this week before heading into the winter holiday. I understand it’s a busy time of the year, but I hope you can make it Tuesday’s night meeting.
