School Update (12-07-2020)

Good evening all, this is your first school update for 2020!

Tomorrow, Wednesday, December 8, 2020, we will hold a meeting/assembly with all seniors in the gym.  Seniors will learn about cap and gown announcements, do’s and don’ts as seniors, and have their senior group photograph taken.  All seniors should know that for the annual senior group “mob” shot, we will no longer allow students to have letters and slogans written on their clothes.  We’ve allowed this for many years and but have learned that doing so has become too problematic. Yes, some students have spoiled it for the others. Students in the past tried to slip in words and jargon that are inappropriate for school. Trust me on this one, while we have tried using the urban dictionary, even these definitions can have multiple meanings.

On Thursday, January 9th, at 2:30 pm, I will be guiding a conversation with all interested stakeholders in looking at the District’s vision for 2030.  Many may have heard of Vision 20/20 and now this is an opportunity to help shape what it will look like for schools for the next ten years.  Part of this process will allow students, staff, and parents to complete a google doc survey that will go to district staff. If you cannot make this afternoon meeting, all documents for the Thursday afternoon gathering are posted on the school website on the front page. Additionally, there is a link attached that will allow students, teachers, and parents to provide feedback for the 2030 visionary direction for the school district. All are invited to take the survey and provide needed feedback. The Vision 2030 meeting will be in the media center.

This same day, January 9th, C-21 students will meet with our counselors in their English classes to go over course selections for the 2020-21 school year.  Juniors and their parents are also invited to meet with our counselors Thursday night at 6 pm to go over course options and graduation for our juniors. The C-21 gathering will be held in the auditorium.

In October, all sophomores and juniors took the PSAT.  This is the practice test for the SAT for colleges. Counselors will be providing juniors their scores and handbook this week when they meet with students. Sophomores will receive their results later this month when counselors meet with them to go over course selection for next year.  Each student should review their areas of strengths and areas of improvement.  For many of our Centurions the test results will indicate AP potential. This means the report will show what AP classes students should consider taking given that their scores correlates with students who had been successful in certain AP classes.

Have a great week.  Hope to see you at our gatherings this week.  Mr. O.
