Get Involved and Stay Informed (11-29-2016)

Good Evening!  Principal Olivero here with your weekly school update.

The next PTSA General Meeting will be this Thursday night, December 1st, at 6:30 pm, in the Media Center.  Following this brief meeting, the PTSA will have a special presentation by Dr. Shirag Shemmassian of Shemmassian Academic Consulting.  He will be giving parents insight into finding and successfully applying for college scholarships.  Please know we will also have translation services for Spanish speaking parents.

This Friday evening, December 2nd, the HOSA Club of UCHS will be hosting Color and Light Junior Science Night event at school.  This will be from 4:30 pm to 8:00 pm where our very own biomed students will work with our future Centurions.  This event if for kids ages 5-10.  This event allows parents to go shopping or have a dinner while letting our own students share their knowledge about science in real way.  The cost is $25 for each student.  Please spread the word to all interested parties and visit the web link: uchshosa.weebly.com to register.

Next Wednesday night, December 7th, seniors that are planning on attending one of San Diego’s Community Colleges in the fall of 2017 are invited to attend an informational presentation about the San Diego Promise Program.  This program helps students with financial need.  The presentation will be at 6:00 pm in the auditorium.  Please know that we will have present translation services for Spanish speaking parents.

Last, next Friday, December 9th, second progress report grades will be posted on ParentSchool portal so be sure to monitor the progress of your student.  If there are questions about a grade for a class, please make sure to contact the teacher via email.  We will also be giving out hard copy progress reports for students next Friday.  Please look for them.

Just to let everyone know, the cross country team did very well at the STATE competition.  The girls’ team took 11th place overall and male runner Alex Halter took 60th place with a time of 16:18.  This is extremely fast for completing a 5k run.

And from the Riverside STATE Marching Band Field Show competition, the UCHS again made history by finishing 4th in the state.  The whole field show was very impressive.  Congratulations to Music Director Brandon Corenman, his coaches, the parent boosters, and to the entire student squad.  What an honor it is to sit and watch our students compete with the very best in the state.  Clap it up!!

Have a great evening and even better week!

Mr. O.
