School Update (11-17-2015)

Get Involved and Stay Informed (11/17/15)

A big shout out to the Band and Color Guard Team who once again took first place in the tournament last weekend.  This is historic!  Never has the UCHS marching band and color guard team qualified for the State “Champs” tournament.  There are 28 teams trying to qualify for the 12 team spots.  The last two years we were one team away from qualifying.  A major “Clap It Up,” this year the team heads into the final competition ranked number #2 out of the 12 teams qualifying.  So not only have they made it, they are right there to compete for the very top spot!  They will be performing in Riverside on Saturday so if you see a band, color guard student, or their parent, please wish them well.  UC U-Know!!

On Thursday, November 19, the school along with the PTSA will celebrate National Parent Involvement Day.  UCHS will be honoring the powerful contributions parents and guardians make to support student success.  A light breakfast will be provided by UCHS and appreciation gifts will be given to those in attendance.

To add to this event, the PTSA has invited Jeff Zlotnick from the Meditation Initiative.  Mr. Zlotnick will be our guest speaker and he will share the benefits of meditation to high school students, parents, teachers - everyone.  Attendees will learn how to hit the pause button, breathe, focus, and reflect - it's a wonderful calming exercise that allows the brain to de-stress and invest in a healthier mind.

Parents of seniors - please know that Grad Nite is not a school-sponsored event.  It is a PTSA event coordinated by parents and community members.  The PTSA has asked me to announce on their behalf that tickets for the 25th anniversary Grad Nite celebration, an event safely celebrating our senior's graduation, will be on sale during lunch in the quad all week.  They want you to know that this is the last week that seniors can purchase a ticket at the $65 price--that pays for 8 hours of safe and secure all-night fun.  Those seeking to purchase a ticket can go to the UCHS PTSA website and print out a form and send their senior to school with a check or cash to ensure they have an alcohol and drug-free place to celebrate their graduation!

Did you know the Centurion Football team will host the second round of CIF play this Friday night in our stadium?  Kickoff is at 7:00 pm.  This is a big game as your Centurion team is ranked #2 in the playoffs.  Additionally, the award winning Band/Color Guard will perform at halftime.  We hope you can come out and support our teams!

Did you know that the Centurion Cross Country Team is one of the best teams in the county?  They compete for a CIF Championship on Saturday morning at Morley Field.

Last, please remember there is no school next week.   We are thankful to have your student in our school and we wish you a safe and restful Thanksgiving Break!
