Principal Olivero here with this week’s school update.
Tomorrow, Wednesday, October 16th, will be a full day of school. Students in grades 10 and 11 will be taking the PSAT most all morning. Students in grades 9-12 were given instructions today as to where they should go for their first period class tomorrow. If in doubt, have them come by the attendance office. The PSAT is very important to many of our juniors. Based on student results some students can qualify for National Merit that can include free college scholarships.
I am told that some seniors were considering holding a senior “ditch day” tomorrow. Please know if a student is not cleared for their absence, they will not be eligible for the homecoming dance. When a student misses school, regardless of the reason, the school/district loses money. If students are ill, they should stay home to get better. If a student thinks they have earned the right to take a day off, this could be true, these days are called Saturdays and Sundays. The reality is that the school needs money to support students. It is counterproductive when students don’t come to school when they are healthy and able.
This Friday, October 18th, students will receive their first progress report to take home to parents. Please check these and contact our teachers if there are questions. Parents can also check their student’s progress using ParentPortal.
Just a reminder, next week is Senior College Week. On the night of Wednesday, October 23rd, all seniors and parents should plan to attend a meeting where representatives from UCSD, SDSU, and Mira Mar Community College will be on hand with our counselors. They will explain the college application and financial aid process. It will be at 6pm in the auditorium.
Also as a reminder, payment for AP tests for May are due by November 1, 2019.
This is homecoming week. There will be a pep rally on Friday, the game Friday night, and the dance Saturday night from 7-10 pm. Whether it’s the game or dance, all students need to have their rides waiting for them when the event is over.
Last, as we get closer to Halloween, a reminder: just because it’s in the Party City catalog doesn’t mean a student can wear it at school. Please know what is and is not ok at school. Please see the school website for the flyer.
Have a great homecoming week Cents! Mr. O.
