School Update (10-10-2017)

Get Involved and Stay Informed (10-10-2017)

Principal Olivero here with your weekly school update.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, October 11th, we will be administering the PSAT to over 900 students. Students taking the test will need to come to school with their students IDs and will be expected to leave their cell phones in their backpacks.  We need everyone cooperating tomorrow morning to make sure a proper testing environment is established and to make sure we are able to relocate students to their new temporary locations.

Last Wednesday, October 3rd, we had a very successful “Interventions Day” where students were able to spend extra time working with teachers.  Please know that progress report cards will be coming out on Friday, October 20th, 2017.  Because getting help with math tends to be the area students need additional support, the school has an after school Math Academy designed to help students on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday after school.  Please consider taking advantage of this onsite support.

For those who qualify for a Free and Reduced Lunch, please know the deadline was this week to complete the application for this school year.  Starting tomorrow, students getting a free lunch will have to pay, creating a negative balance.  To get enrolled, please get an application from the attendance office.  I am being told by the cafeteria manager that some students who qualify are not taking advantage of the food program being offered.  The research shows very clearly that students need to eat, and properly, to be able to stay focused and to improve their intellectual capacity.

While we have received the Federal Survey Sheets back from many of our families, please make sure to complete the form and send to school ASAP if you have not already done so.

That’s it for now.  Homecoming will be next week.  Arcade games is the theme for this year:   Pac-Man; Pong; Donkey Kong; and my favorite- Frogger.

Have a good evening.  -Mr. O.
