School Update (10-08-2019)
As shared last week, tomorrow, Wednesday, October 9th, will be our first early out Intervention Day. This is an opportunity for students to get help from their teachers. From 1 pm to 2:30 pm, students can meet with their teachers to go over assignments, make up exams, and get help. Teachers will be in their rooms.
The final day for the first progress reporting period is Friday, October 11th. Students will take home their first progress report to parents on Friday, October 18th.
Wednesday, October 16th, will be a full school day. All students in grades 10 and 11 will be taking the College Board’s PSAT.
As a reminder, the week of October 21st will be senior college information week. On Tuesday, October 22nd, counselors will be talking to senior on their classes about college applications. The counselors will also be holding a College/Financial Aid parent/student meeting in the auditorium the evening of Wednesday, October 23rd. All seniors and parents should plan to attend as it will be from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. We will have Spanish translation services available to parents. Representatives from UCSD, SDSU, and Mira Mar Community College will also be present to answer questions.
If you have a student taking an AP class this year, please listen up. The College Board has changed its timeline for when tests need to be ordered and paid for. While it used to be in the spring, it is now in the fall. The deadline is Friday, November 1, 2019.
If you qualify for a Fee Waiver, this would be for families that qualify for a Free and Reduced Lunch, there is a new process in place to get the code to put on the AP test application. When parents complete the Lunch Application Form, and if they qualify, the district will mail out a confirmation letter to the family. This letter needs to be taken to our finance office where the clerk will provide the Fee Waiver Pin number for students to use when signing up to take their AP test. If you have questions about your eligibility or misplaced the letter, contact the district at 858-627-7328. Remember, each year a new Lunch Application form needs to be submitted to the district to be potentially eligible for a fee waiver. Last, this weekend, Saturday, will be the annual UC Schools Oktoberfest. It will be at Standley Park from 1-6 pm. This is always a great event with many events and activities planned. All proceeds and funds made from the event go right back to the five UC schools. Thank you EdUCate for putting on and hosting this amazing day for our schools.
