School Update (10-04-2016)

Get Involved and Stay Informed (10-04-2016)

Good evening!  This is Principal Olivero providing your weekly school update.  And yes, it’s Candy Land homecoming week at UCHS.  The pep rally will be on Friday, a small portion covered live by Fox 5 news, the game will be at 6 pm, and the dance will follow in the gym.  Also, every so many years the UCHS Hall of fame committee seeks a few outstanding alumni to honor and this will take place on the track just before the opening kickoff Friday night.  The names and pictures of inductees are placed in the media center.  At this point, there have been nine with another four being recognized Friday night.

This is the last week to purchase PSAT exams for October 19th.  The deadline is tomorrow, Oct. 5th for any 9th and 11th grade student.  All 10th graders are free.  The cost is $15 dollars.

This Wednesday night, October 5th, the Counseling Department will hold their annual College Night in the auditorium.  This will be an important meeting- particularly for our seniors and their parents.  The meeting will start at 6 pm and we will have Spanish translation services available.

On Thursday night, October 6th, the PTSA meeting and principal chat will be held in southeast San Diego, at Zamorano Elementary School at 6:30 pm.  We are moving the meeting to an evening time slot and location to allow more access to our southeast San Diego families.  Please plan to attend and we will again have Spanish translation services available.

And last, I need to share that we need our parents to pick up their students within 25 minutes of a concluding event held at UCHS.  Sometimes a football game will end and almost everyone is gone except 5 to 10 students who are waiting on their ride.  Please know that school officials can’t leave until each student is picked up.  And I can share that while we love our kids, we also appreciate going home after a 14 hour day.  Please plan ahead so we can leave at a reasonable hour.

Have a great candy land homecoming spirit week and hope to see you at the game.  Remember, tomorrow is wacky dress-hair day.

-Mr. O.
