School Update (10-01-2019)

Principal Olivero here with some school updates.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, October 2nd, all students in their first period class will receive the annual Federal Survey card (paper) for parents to complete.  This information is needed back from each and every student. It allows the school district to determine if they should be receiving federal dollars for students based on the employment status of their parents.  Please do your very best to return the card back to their first period teacher.  For those who have assigned time home and community college period one, please turn in the card into the attendance office.

Next Tuesday, October 8th, will be the last picture make-up days for students.

Wednesday, October 9th, will be our first early out Intervention Day. An Intervention Day is a Wednesday set aside for students to get help from their teachers.  From 1 pm to 2:30 pm, students can meet with their teachers to go over assignments, make up exams, and get help.  Teachers will be in their rooms.  We will have after school busing that will allow students to ride the 2:40 bus if they need it.  We will also have all athletic teams and clubs not meet during this time so that students can get help is they need it.

The final day for the first progress reporting period is Friday, October 11th.  Students will take home their first progress report to parents on Friday, October 18th.

Speaking of October 18th, the school’s homecoming game and dance will be on the 18th and 19th.  The theme is Road Trip to various cities in the country.  The seniors have New York, the juniors have Hollywood, the sophomores have Las Vegas, and freshmen have New Orleans.

Wednesday, October 16th, will be a full school day.  All students in grades 10 and 11 will be taking the College Board’s PSAT. We will have a modified schedule for students as it will require we have 22 staff proctors for the 960 plus students taking the exam this morning. While we have offered the opportunity for 9th graders to take the exams in prior years, we do not have the staffing numbers to pull this off this year.  The cost for the test for 10th and 11th graders is free. More information to follow about the exam next week.

The week of October 21st will be senior college information week.  On Tuesday, October 22nd, counselors will be talking to senior on their classes about college applications.  The counselors will also be holding a College/Financial Aid parent/student meeting in the auditorium the evening of Wednesday, October 23rd.  It will be from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm.  Representatives from UCSD, SDSU, and Mira Mar Community College will also be present to answer questions.
