Get Involved and Stay Informed (05-31-2016)
Good evening, Principal Olivero here with your weekly school update.
Tomorrow, June 1st, will be our last early out day until finals.
There are a lot of end of school events happening, especially for seniors, so all should frequently check out the school website.
Friday night, June 3rd, at 7pm in the gym the PTSA will be hosting another West Coast Swing event in the gym. I attended earlier in the year and may I suggest our students also attend. Some did the and it’s actually pretty cool to have the knowledge and skill to do a sugar push; left side pass; right side pass; tuck turn; and whip. I highly recommend the learning the cool steps as prom is right around the corner… Saturday night!
That’s right! Saturday night is the prom and it will be downtown at the El Cortez Hotel. It will be from 7:30 pm to 11:30 pm. I am already looking forward to showing off my West Coast Swing moves. Ok, maybe not, but you never know!!
This week until Friday, students have one last chance to see their counselor if they are planning to change a class they want to take next year. Counselors met with students in February, but in case a student or parent have second thoughts, now is the time to finalize the preference. After June 21st, there will be no changing classes unless there is a mistake. Counselors are outside in the quad to meet with students at lunch.
On Tuesday, June 7th, The Centurion Foundation (CF) is hosting their annual Sports Screening Physical Event from 4:30-7:00pm in UCHS Activity Room. While students can go to their own doctor, the CF has organized an event to have all UCHS student athletes and future students complete their physical at UCHS. There will be doctors and nurses on hand to screen all student athletes. It’s somewhat of a one-stop-shop process for the day. Within a few days, San Diego Unified will release a new online system for processing physical forms and paperwork. There will still be a few forms to sign as a hard copy, but most all other forms will be submitted by the parent/guardian electronically.
Last, as we make down the final stretch, we could use our trusted and some new volunteers to help us with a variety of end of the year activities. We need help with the senior prom Saturday night; Sports Physicals June 7th; Students versus Staff Softball Game, June 8th; Senior Awards Night, June 9th; Textbook returns on June 10th, 14th and 15th; and help with Graduation Set-up on June 21st. Please visit the school website and the various links to sign up for these opportunities to stay involved and informed.
Have a great evening. Mr. O.
