Get Involved and Stay Informed (05-02-2017)
Good Evening! Principal Olivero here with a school update.
This Friday, May 5, 2017, UCHS will be holding the annual UCHS Volunteer Appreciation Ceremony. It will begin at 7:20 am in the Auditorium. We have hundreds of volunteers who make UCHS extremely special and we hope all can free up their schedule to attend. The PTSA will hold their monthly meeting during this time as well. This is an opportunity to learn more about the school and how to stay involved.
Seniors and their parents listen up. As you know, many of our senior students and their families have been together for over 12 years. Each year parents begin to ask about seniors activities and how they can participate. The first one will be on Saturday, May 20th from 8 am to 10 am. The PTSA is sponsoring a pancake breakfast with eggs, sausage, potatoes, juice, etc. It is a fundraiser to help reduce the cost for the Senior Grad Party and the coast is $10 a person. Tickets can be purchased in front of the media center at lunch. I mention this particular fundraiser because it is not only for a good cause but it’s an opportunity to have students and parents alike celebrating our partnership and the Class of 2017!
We are in the heart of AP testing and appreciate everyone helping to arrive on time in the morning. Looking ahead, starting May 16th through May 25th, we will be having block schedule days. This means on certain days we will have periods 1, 3 and 5 and the other days periods 2, 4, 6. The block schedule structure will allow 11th grade students the opportunity to have extended time to take their SBAC (common core) tests in English and math. The results for these exams are used by colleges to determine whether a student has to take remedial English and math classes the first year in college.
Have a great week and enjoy this weather while it lasts! Mr. O.
