School Update (04-23-2018)

Get Involved and Stay Informed (4-23-2018)

Principal Olivero here with your weekly school update.

We need all parents to complete the California School Parent Survey identifying areas of strengths and areas for improvement for the school.  The link to the survey can be found on the front page of our school website in School News.  The directions will provide you with a web address to cut and paste to your browser. Thank you for taking the time to provide us feedback.

On Wednesday, April 25th, we will have an early out day designed to allow students to meet and get extra help from their teachers.  From 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm, students can meet with their teachers to make up assignments, get clarification on important concepts, and work in teams to study for upcoming AP exams.  If your student could benefit, please know we have designed a support day for students.

If your student did not pass a class in the fall or last year, please make sure they sign up for summer school.  Summer offerings will be at CPMA, Morse, Lincoln, Hoover, Henry and Mira Mesa High School.  Students should see their counselor to get signed up ASAP.

Many may have already seen the proposed cell phone policy change for school.  If you have not, please view the school’s front web page and review the proposed policy as it is different, with different consequences as a result for having out and use of a phone during instructional time.  The School Site Governance Team will be voting on the cell phone policy, Wednesday, May 2nd, after school.  All are invited to share their viewpoints with SSGT members in advance or at the meeting.

Last, major clap it up for our Winter Guard team, our All Male hip hop team, and our girls’ Drill team.  This last weekend the WG team took second at Edison High School in Riverside and scored well enough to make it to Sunday’s southern CA Championship.  They finished 9th out of 15 teams.  This is an amazing accomplishment given the number of teams and schools in southern CA. Competing at Magic Mountain yesterday, the All Male team took 3rd and the girls’ Drill team took 1st!   UC U-know!

Have a great week, Mr. O.
