Principal Olivero here with a Mid-week call out.
This part of the message is for parents of 9th and 11th graders. In English classes tomorrow students will be given a parent survey to take home to be completed by the parent/guardian. This survey is called the Healthy Kids Survey and is given out to students and their parents every year. The state of California and the school wants feedback from students and parents. Students will be taking the survey in the English classes. If you are a parent of a 9th and 11th grader, please ask your student about the survey. They should be completed and returned back to their English teacher.
Next week we will start the first phase on Common Core testing for 11th grade students. All 11th graders will take state mandated tests in the areas of math, English and science. These tests are structured in a way that requires problem solving, informational analysis, coupled with the ability of the student to defend their thinking. These tests matter to our students and matter to the overall academic reputation of the school. We have been fortunate in prior years in that our students have scored very high.
For testing, we will be having some block schedule days in April and in May. A block schedule day is structured by having periods 1, 3, and 5 on one day and periods 2, 4, and 6 on another. April 17, 18, 24 and 25 will be block schedule days this month. Please do you best to not schedule appointments on these days.
Shifting topics, the UCHS Music Department Presents its 5th Annual Sights and Sounds Showcase next Friday, April 19th. This will be an evening of music, food, fun and friends. The event is open to all parents and community members and is a $15 dollar donation at the door. Students and staff will be showcasing their musical talents. Will there be another American Idol representative? The event will be held at the Jewish Community Center and will start at 6pm and conclude at 10:30 pm. I might even be auctioning off a few items at the showcase during intermission. It’s always a great event. Hope to see you there!
Have a great night. Mr. O.
