Get Involved and Stay Informed (04-01-2019)
Principal Olivero here with the school update for the week. As a reminder, it is April 1st.
As many know, UCHS is focused on supporting the academic and social emotional needs of students. This year EdUCate and PTSA help fund an outside group counseling group called Mending Matters. This counseling group works with a group of students one-on-one and in groups each Thursday. Tomorrow, Tuesday, April 2nd, another county mental health agency “Here and Now” will be in biology classes (mostly 9th graders) to discuss anxiety, depression, and teen suicide. We want to make students and their friends know where and how to get help. If you do not want your student to participate in the presentations tomorrow, please email an administrator tonight or first thing in the morning.
Starting the night of April 2, 3, 4 and 5, UC’s Performing Arts Department will be showcasing their next drama production: Peter and the Star Catcher. All performances will be held in the school’s auditorium with curtains rising at 7 pm. Please come out and support our young actors.
And last, this Friday night is the annual Students versus Staff basketball game. That’s right, with a 5:30 pm tip off, the staff is ready and primed to school our young Centurions. Each year this contest is a close one. What makes the games so close? My hunch is that the officiating has something to do with it. Each year a handpicked number of students, former varsity players, officiate the game. Let’s see, students officiating the students versus staff game. That sounds fair. Please know that the staff will have a fair number of eye wear devices available for student use- for both officiating and for shooting.
Have a great week and enjoy your April 1st call out. Mr. O.
