Get Involved and Stay Informed (3-06-2018)
Principal Olivero here with your weekly school update.
Tomorrow, Wednesday, March 7th, we have another Interventions Day planned for students. This means from 1 pm to 2:30 pm, students are able to meet with their teachers to make up work and tests. If your student could use the extra help, all teachers will be available to assist students.
This Thursday night UCHS ‘s Music Department’s award winning choir, orchestra and concert band will be performing at 7pm in our auditorium. Tickets will be sold at the door and all are welcome to attend this amazing performance.
Our Cents had a very productive weekend last Saturday as our Boys’ Soccer Team won a CIF banner defeated Crawford 5-0 for a CIF Championship. Today they will host the first round of STATE playoffs at UCHS. Last Saturday our Science Olympiad Team also competed and took fifth and as a result qualified for STATE. UCHS was the highest ranked science team in SDUSD. We also had wrestler Hunter Phillips take 12th place in STATE and perhaps even more impressive was selected as the recipient of the San Diego County’s CIF Pursuing Victory with Honor award.
Next Wednesday, March 14th, at 10am, there is expected to be a nationwide walkout by students. Please know that I have been working with our student leaders to figure out how best to navigate this planned student event. Our student leaders shared their action is to honor the victims of school shootings and protest against the threats to their safety caused by a government that has failed to take action to protect them. They said they are to walking out to demand stricter gun laws. They believe in the Second Amendment, but believe there should be tighter restrictions. They also are advocating for more awareness about mental health issues and greater accessibility to mental health care.
Have a good evening. -Mr. O.
