School Update (03-03-2020)

Principal Olivero here with voting day update.

After speaking to office staff, here is what we came up with for the 2020-21 campus hours.  The following hours will be for all five days of the week, including late Wednesdays.  Please keep in mind that the following plan is scheduled to take place daily except when the office staff is out for illness or required vacation days.

Each day the campus gates and campus building hallways will be opened at 7:30 a.m. There will also be one campus supervision aide patrolling the campus on his golf cart at 7:30 a.m.

At 8:00 a.m., students will have access to the library and media center.  We will serve students on a first come, first serve basis, as there is a capacity limit for this area of our facilities.  The library tech will supervise this area.

Additionally, at 8:00 a.m., the main front office will be open for students, parents and staff.  The Attendance Office will have one staff person to answer questions and take calls and the Principal’s Secretary, Finance Office, and Registrar’s Office will also be open at this time.

At 8:15 a.m., the first administrator will be on campus.

At 8:36 a.m., teachers and counselors will be on campus.

School will start at 8:45 a.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.  Lunch will be after third period on these days at 11:49 a.m.  School start time for Late Start Wednesdays will be at 9:55 a.m., with lunch at 12:25 p.m.

With the exception of finals, school will always be released at 3:36 p.m.

Our late activity bus will be departing at 4:30 p.m. and our front office will remain open until 4:30 p.m.

I am still waiting to hear back regarding whether we can or cannot not have a zero period option for US History classes. They will be letting me know soon.  District staff is also looking at the feasibility of bringing in portable lights for the upper fields.  If we do not have a zero period option next year, most athletic teams will start after school.  Regardless, student athletes who are in grades 9 and 10 will be scheduled into a 6th period athletic class. This will help them not miss as much class time when they need to travel to away contests.

Shifting gears, UCHS will host a first round State Playoff basketball game at UCHS tonight at 7 p.m.  We will be playing Calexico High School.

Have a great week and we hope to see you at the ball game! UC U-Know!!
