School Update (02-21-2018)

Good evening, Principal Olivero here with your weekly school update.

Busy times here at UCHS with Winter CIF action.  As a quick rundown, last weekend we had a number of wrestlers who qualified for state level competition.  In the 184 pound division, Hunter Phillips was the top wrestler and was crowned CIF Champion.  As a team the UC wrestlers were crowned runner-up CIF Champions. On the basketball courts the lady Centurions won a league title and open up CIF play tonight at UCHS, at 7pm.  Last night the boys opened up their CIF competition and beat the number two seeded team, Rancho Buena Vista, 61-51.  They now advance and play at Brawley High School on Friday night.  The boys’ soccer team also won a league title and drew a bye their opening round and open up CIF play this Saturday at UCHS, at 5pm, in our stadium.  The lady Cents water polo team also won a league banner and has already beat Serra High School and Bonita Vista High School and will play their semifinal match against number one seed, Grossmont, this Thursday at LJHS, at 5:45 pm. And last, the UC Cheer squad will be up in Anaheim this coming weekend to compete for the Nationals.  We wish our Centurions the very best!

This Thursday night, February 22, at 6 PM, there will be an important meeting for our parents and students of our current 11th graders.  The meeting will be held in the auditorium and the counselors will be discussing course selections for next year.  It should be noted that the counselors, although meeting more nights with parents this month, have separated our grade level parent meetings to provide greater focus and attention to their needs. All 11th grade parents should plan to attend.

Last, next Tuesday, February 27th, at 6 PM, there will be a meeting for coaches and parents regarding the spring sporting season.  Parents will get to meet the coaches and learn about CIF/school policy related to competition and safe play for our student athletes.  Parents of students in a spring sport should plan to attend this important meeting.

Have a great week and make sure to come out and support your Cents!

 Mr. O.
