School Update (02-14-2017)

Get Involved and Stay Informed (02-14-2017)

Good Evening!  Principal Olivero here with a school update.

While I know we have still a lot of work to do as a school and not everyone’s experience at UCHS is completely positive, over the weekend we learned that the NICHE organization that reviews and ranks all public schools in California came out with their 2017 state rankings.  I am proud to share that UCHS did really well.  UCHS was ranked higher than the other Big 5 schools (La Jolla, Scripps Ranch, Patrick Henry and Mira Mesa).  In fact, UCHS scored an overall rating of A+ and was the highest ranked high school in San Diego Unified School District.

UCHS was ranked #99 out of 1573 high schools in CA, and # 79 for preparing students for college.

The areas the NICHE organization looked at were:

`          1. Academic rigor on campus

2. Value of teachers

3. Diversity of student body

4. Clubs and activities on campus

5. Health and safety on campus

This is great news for our students, staff, parents, and community.  As I stated, there is still work to be done, but it is always encouraging to hear positive news like this.

Speaking of positive news, I am again appealing to you to mark your time in history by purchasing a Centurion Brick.  The details are on the school website on the front page.  Get your brick and spread the word!

Last, it’s time for Winter Sports and CIF play.  The girls water polo plays this Weds., at UCSD, at 4:45 pm.  This last weekend the wrestling team competed and took 3rd place in the Division III CIF Championships.  The team looks to be well-stocked at the 9th graders took 5th place competing against all county schools.  This puts us right up there with the big dogs up in north county. Most of our other winter teams will qualify for CIF competition as well as they finish up their regular season play.

Have a great week and Happy Valentine’s day!

Mr. O.
