Get Involved and Stay Informed (02-05-2019)
Principal Olivero here with you weekly call out.
On Monday, February 11, 2019, the school’s School Site Governance Team (SSGT) will be meeting to discuss what school start times options we should have next year. The meeting will be held in the library at 2:30 pm. Should parents not have an opportunity to attend this afternoon meeting, they should reach out to the SSGT representatives to share their views. Email addresses for reps. can be found on the school website under the Parents tab, School Committees, and SGT members.
On Thursday night, February 7, at 6 pm, all 9th grade parents and students are invited to an articulation meeting. This meeting lead by our counselors is designed to explain course offerings for next year’s 10th graders. Parents will learn course requirements for high school graduation and the courses colleges like to see on high school transcripts. Please keep in mind that there is a college for every student. We want to stretch our young academic Cents, at the same time not break them (stress them out) in the process. The meeting will be held in the auditorium.
On Monday, I sent out a school intercom message out to our Centurions talking about their amazing weekend. We had two male wrestlers win their weight class for a City Finals and one female wrestler who qualified to go to State! We had 20 musicians (all stars) selected for the Honors Concert at Sympathy Hall last Saturday night. Our Girls Water Polo had a great victory on Friday that allowed them to earn a Co-League Championship and they play Saturday, at 9:45 am for their CIF quarterfinal match. We had four students who earned honors at the PTSA’s Reflection Art and Visual Arts Category. The school’s Unarmed JROTC team took 1st at the Sweetwater competition. Needless to say, a great weekend for our Centurions.
This is National Counselor week. Please send them an email or give them a high five for their important work with our students. Also to note, Art teacher/coach Gimi McCarthy is the UC’s Teacher of the Year. Gimi is an outstanding selection as he is an amazing educator who is deeply committed to serving the students of UCHS. We have all been blessed by his work! Clap it up!!
Have a great week! Mr. O.
