Class of 2020 School Update (07-10-2020)
Good evening Centurion Families,
A decision has been reached as to whether we will be able to hold a summer graduation for our seniors. Unfortunately, with the rise in Covid-19 cases in the last few weeks in San Diego, we will not be able to have an in-person ceremony with students and spectators in our stadium. As a district, the safety of our students is our top priority. With this in mind, we have decided to move forward with our prerecorded virtual graduation for the Class of 2020.
As mentioned earlier in the week, our team put together a ceremony that mirrors much of our regular graduation ceremony. I want to also extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who worked so thoughtfully to put this together so we could have it ready to celebrate our amazing group of graduates. This certainly is not the way we planned to conclude the year for the Class of 2020, but like all the obstacles students have faced this year, we are confident that they will overcome this set back as well. We are just thankful we were able to hold a senior celebration online and in-person celebration the last day of school. Lots of clap it ups for sure!
I know I have said it before, but it truly is my hope that our seniors are able to find a sense of peace in this time of chaos, and also a new sense of purpose as we continue to write our story together.
We hope to post the virtual graduation ceremony on Friday, July 17th. I’ll let everyone know about the time and details later next week. If we have it ready, we also plan to hand out diplomas to seniors on Friday, July 17th. This distribution will not have all of the bells and whistles, just a chance for seniors to hand in their rented cap and gowns and a chance to pick up their diplomas. We believe the time for this exchange will be from 1pm to 3:30pm on Friday, July 17th. I’ll send out more information later next week but I wanted to get this out tonight to share a decision was reached.
Last, today a few seniors dropped by to pick up their yearbooks. After not seeing them for over a month, I can share I really enjoyed seeing them. All them were so courteous and appreciative. You have done well parents and teachers! We are going to miss them. They will forever be the famous Class of 2020!
Talk to you soon, Mr. O.
