About Toler Elementary
Toler fosters a strong sense of belonging and collaboration. Coupled with high expectations for all members of the Toler Learning Community, we have built a strong foundation for student achievement. Our high test scores reflect this hard work and support.
With our dedicated staff and active volunteers, our school provides a caring and motivating learning environment. Our mission is to prepare students to be respectful leaders and problem solvers who will bring creativity and high levels of productivity to their career or job.
Our school has more than a half-century of tradition behind it. In fact, tradition is so strong here we are named for San Diego's first school teacher, William P. Toler.
We offer many programs, above and beyond, all aimed at enhancing student learning. In addition to our daily instruction some of these after school programs include: Academic Chess, Toler Trekkers Running Club ,Yearbook Club, Robotics, Spanish Instruction, and Aerobics.
Our grassroots character education and service-learning opportunities (where students perform services for the community and learn new skills as a result) have proven to bring out the best in our students. Our active Parent Teacher Association supports our students and staff to create a wonderful partnership between home and school. Numerous volunteer opportunities and events bring families together to share in the joy of learning.
All this creates a school climate of excellence that has been recognized in many ways. Our numerous awards include: 2012 California Distinguished School, Administrator’s Golden Mouse Award from the California Legislature, a Technology Hero Awards, Tech Tools for Schools, ,Outstanding Improvement in Science Achievement, and SDPD Safety Patrol of the Year and the VAPA Arts Focus Award.
Toler has been recognized two years in a row (2013,2014) as a STAR School by California Business for Education Excellence. STAR schools are high performing, achievement gap closing schools .Our students have received many honors as well, including awards for their community service and character development programs and participation in math and reading contests. Come see Toler in action!
