#GotCalmingTechniques?

The NAMI San Diego PEP (Parents Empowering Parents) Meeting is a place where parents and caregivers can learn new support tools to assist with being the best advocate possible for your child, teen or young adult. Here at NAMI San Diego, we teach empowerment to parents and caregivers. These tools of knowledge help grow the parenting "Tool Belt" to become a robust source of information for times you need it most!

Every 3rd Wednesday of the month NAMI San Diego and the Children, Youth & Family Liaison hosts a free, open PEP - Parents Empowering Parents - Family Support & Coaching Meeting.  This meeting combines peer support with professional development for families or caregivers who receive support within the Children's System of Care (CSOC). Family members or caregivers who are not currently involved with the CSOC are welcome to attend.

Join us this Wednesday, September 18* from 6 - 8 PM for this month's impactful meeting:

De-escalation Techniques for Parents/Caregivers

presented by Darron Jones, Parent Partner at San Diego Center for Children, with tools for parents and caregivers can use to help calm down an intense situation. This discussion will take place during the first part of the meeting from 6 - 7 pm and all are welcome to attend this discussion.

The Parent Support portion of the Meeting will begin at 7:00 pm.

Parents/Caregivers are Invited to Use Their Lived Experience to Make a Difference in the Children's System of Care

Did you know an important part of our role here at NAMI SDs CYF Liaison is to support the role of Youth/Parent Partners, also referred to Youth/Family Support Partners (Y/FSPs)? Simply stated, Y/FSPs are people with "Lived Experience" of helping a youth navigate a mental health/brain challenge, the Special Education system, or navigate one of our community systems such as Foster Care, Child Welfare or Juvenile Justice. Parents and caregiver with this type of Lived Experience are invaluable to the Children's System of Care (CSOC). This type of experience is not taught in schools. Y/FSPs add an important and necessary voice to the CSOC.

Interested? If so, we want to help! Join our online 1-hour self paced Principles of Family/Youth Professional Partnerships (PFYPP) training to learn an overview of the work Y/FSPs do. You are also invited to participant in our half-day in-person Working Together training on October 29, 2019. They are both FREE! Please click the buttons below to sign up. If you'd like more information, please send us an email, and we will assist you as best we can!
