Q-Nation,

This week was filled with an incredible amount of positive energy! Our students are showing how they are ready to positively impact the world.

"If geek means you're willing to study things, and if you think science and engineering matter, I plead guilty. If your culture doesn't like geeks, you are in real trouble." - Bill Gates.

Therefore, parents and community members, please continue to encourage our students to unlock their genius. I want to give a big "Shout Out" to our boys /girls sports teams for their excellent efforts during the fall season. I am proud to serve the "Greatest High School in the Universe".

Have a Q-Tastic Day !!!!

WEEK IN REVIEW

Serra High Girls Golfer Makes A Run For CIF Medals!

April Ranches, a Serra Sophomore, competes during the boys golf season but due to CIF rules can not play during the League and CIF Championships with the boys. That is not a problem for April because her score during the boys season count for entry in the League Championships during the girls season. April waited all summer and watched during the girls regular season to enter into the City Conference Championships and compete with girls golfers that she knew very well.

After the first round April was tied for the lead shooting 75. She was tied with a girl from Cathedral and two girls from La Jolla. April was noticed on the course right away by many of her friends and her golf skills were notice by Fox5. Before the second day of golf, April arrived early for her media interview with Fox5 (airing Nov.11th) about her path to the City Conference Golf Tournament. April's run in the City Conference finished with 4th place. She represented Serra very proudly in what could be the first time a Serra Athlete finished in the top four in City Conference Girls Golf Championship.

The second stop was the Girls Golf CIF Championships where April wanted to move up the medal stand but in order to do so she needed to play against the best in the county. On Tuesday November 3rd, April shot a 73 and was in the top 3 spots out of 144 girls competing in San Diego Section CIF Championships. In the final round on Nov. 5th, April took 2nd place in CIF San Diego Section and now is the first Conquistador to finish with a second place finish for Serra High Girls Golf. Her score on the final day was 75 for an impressive 148 after 36 holes played in the two day tournament at the Admiral Baker Golf Course.
