Parent Message 6-8-20

Dear Falcon Families,

This week is the final week of the 2019-20 school year. The last official day of school is tomorrow, June 9th. Also on June 9th will be the day for seniors to pay their fines and pick up their diplomas. Thursday, June 11th will be the final makeup day for students in all grade levels to turn in their textbooks/equipment or pick up any personal items left on campus. Similar to last week, I have included all updates for seniors in the class of 2020 section towards the bottom of this message. Here are the latest updates as of 6-8-20

Fines for Students in Grades 9-11 and Chromebook Pickup

We will not be collecting fines for students in grades 9-11 at this time. We will also not be collecting Chromebooks for students in grades 9-11 unless they are leaving the district. If a student is leaving the district and needs to return a Chromebook, the Chromebook can be returned on Thursday, June 11th between 8am – 12pm.

Due to the COVID-19 situation, schools will not be physically mailing home report cards. To check final grades, students and families can log onto PowerSchool on June 12th to see students’ final grades.

Final Makeup Day for Students in All Grade Levels

The final day for students in all grade levels to come to campus to return textbooks/equipment, pick up personal items, pay fines (seniors only), pick up diplomas (seniors only), return Chromebooks (seniors and students leaving the district only) is this Thursday, June 11th from 8am – 12pm. To limit traffic, students with last names A – L can come from 8am – 10am and last names M – Z can come from 10am – 12pm. Click this (Link) to see the protocol for this day.

Yearbook Pick Up Date is Still TBD

As a reminder, our yearbook will be made available digitally for all students free of charge. Free access will last from June 2nd (the originally planned distribution date) through June 29th. Digital access will remain open for students who purchased the yearbook. Hard copies of the yearbook are still on sale at the SRHS webstore. At this time, we are expecting yearbooks to arrive sometime in July to be physically picked up.

Senior Diploma/Personal Item Pick up, Fine Payment, and Chromebook Collection

Tuesday, June 9th from 8am – 12pm will be the day for seniors to come onto campus to pick up their diplomas, pick up any personal items left on campus, pay their fines and return their Chromebook if they checked one out. To limit traffic, students with last names A – L can come from 8am – 10am and last names M – Z can come from 10am – 12pm. I understand there are other celebrations happening on this day so if needed, seniors can come during either timeslot. Click this (Link) to see the protocol for this day. Reminder, all fines will need to be paid before seniors can pick up their diploma. If seniors were not able to pick up their cap and gown last Tuesday, June 2nd, they can come to campus on Tuesday, June 9th or Thursday, June 11th between 8am – 12pm to pick up their cap and gown.

Seniors Only – How to Pay Fines Online

At this time, we have approximately 130 seniors who need to pay their fines before they are able to pick up their diplomas.

Students should first check the library page on the SRHS website. There is a link to Destiny so students can see what they have checked out. It can be found on the page under What do you have checked out?. Fines for lost textbooks will need to be paid before a diploma can be picked up. If you have questions about textbooks or fines, please email our library tech, Silvia Rohrer at srohrer@sandi.net

Students can pay fines using the online store located on the main page under the “For Students” tab of the Scripps Ranch High School website. To pay fines online, click this (Link) and login. Next, enter the amount to pay. Then, download the required form. Click add to cart and pay the amount. Complete the form and students should take it to station #3 on June 9th (located in the quad) along with the printout proof of payment to collect their diploma.

Senior Celebration Graduation Website

On Tuesday, June 9th the SDUSD graduation website will go live. On the page will be our senior highlight video, pictures and other videos to celebrate the class of 2020 for their accomplishments. Once this link is active, I will send it via School Messenger to families, post it in the Class of 2020 Google Classroom, and also post on the main page of our SRHS website.

Preparation for Virtual Graduation Ceremony

As a reminder, while we are hoping it will be safe to hold a physical graduation ceremony with social distancing later in the summer, we still need to prepare in the event we will need to hold a virtual graduation ceremony. The virtual graduation slideshow will only be published if we are unable to hold a physical graduation in the summertime. Families, please take a picture of your graduate, it can be casual or in their cap and gown.  We are also asking for a short message to be included from the family for your graduating senior. Click this (Link) to see an example of a roll call slide.

Directions to create your own:

Google Slides Steps: Open the link shared of the example roll call slide and on the upper left, go to FILE and then MAKE A COPY (Entire Presentation.) Then title it by the Student’s First and Last Name and student ID number. (Example: Hayden Brooks 123456.) Now you can edit the slide to insert your graduate’s picture and full name of student with a personal message in the text box to the right. Attach the slide you created to an email,  Subject Line: Parent/Guardian Senior Virtual Slide and send to: Amy Hines, Interim Vice Principal, ahines@sandi.net

A confirmation email will be sent in 24 hours. Please send a follow up email if you do not receive confirmation.

That’s all I have for today. I will continue to send out updates throughout the summer as information about the graduation ceremony as well as next school year becomes available. Have a great summer!
