Parent Message 5-18-20
Dear Falcon Families,
We are getting closer and closer to the close of the 2019-2020 school year. It has been a year full of unexpected twists and surprises that nobody could have predicted. It has been difficult, but we are making it through. I hope that you are continuing to stay positive, safe and healthy. Last week, there was a lot of information released. I will do my best to summarize it below. I know my weekly emails are lengthy so I will summarize items to follow up on in the “Follow Up” section at the bottom of this email. Here are the latest updates as of 5-18-20.
Memorial Day Weekend
There will be no school on Friday, May 22nd and Monday, May 25th. During the week of May 25th, there will be a slight change in the Distance Learning schedule due to having no school on Monday. Please click this () to see the schedule. A modified finals week schedule is also included for your reference. Teachers may or may not be giving final assessments. Teachers will provide details regarding final exams at a later date.
Collection of Uniforms and Equipment for Athletics and AFJROTC grades 9-11
Beginning Tuesday, May 19th, we have been given permission to collect AFJROTC/Athletic uniforms as well as athletic equipment for students in grades 9 – 11 following safety guidelines established by the county. Textbooks and other materials will be returned at a later date as we have not been given guidelines for this procedure at this time. Senior collection procedures will also be given at a later time. Please click this () for the collection procedure.
Today marks the beginning of week 2 of AP testing. Two days before the exam students should receive their AP Exam e-ticket email. Please click this () for the AP Schedule. Click this () for the AP Exam Day Student Checklist students should have with them on test day.
If a student, either due to technical difficulties or waiting too long during the timed section could not submit their exam, here is what to do:
Students will need to submit a form - cb.org/requestmakeup
Students will need their original ticket to complete the form.
Students will get another chance to test in June.
Class of 2020 Important Updates
There is a lot of new information for the Class of 2020 so I have included it all in this section.
Graduation Ceremony and Senior Celebration
On the evening of May 14th, Superintendent Marten sent a letter to senior families explaining that the graduation ceremonies of all high schools within SDUSD will be postponed. I followed up with an email to the senior class on Friday, May 15th. If you missed this communication, please click this () to see the message from Superintendent Marten and click this ( ) to read the letter I have written to seniors. The ASB President’s Council, with input from over 2600 seniors from across the district, was adamant that the graduation ceremony be postponed so it could possibly be held at a later date in the summer. The council ranked their three preferences: (1) In-person ceremony as traditional as possible, (2) social distancing ceremony and (3) virtual ceremony. For Scripps Ranch High, we will exercise one of these 3 options later in the summer. For equity purposes, a drive thru ceremony will not be implemented. The ASB President’s Council also expressed their interest in having a “senior celebration” occur in June to honor the Class of 2020. This week, our priority is to begin planning the senior celebration to honor the class of 2020 in June.
What Will the Senior Celebration Look Like?
This week, I am meeting again with the ASB seniors to make final decisions on the senior celebration. We know 2 things so far: (1) We will create a SRHS senior celebration Google Site to go live on June 9th to honor our senior class with pictures, staff shout outs, short clips and other surprises, and (2) we will create a “senior highlight” video that will premiere on the Google Site. More details will come as we delve into planning.
Class of 2020 Google Classroom
As mentioned above, on June 9th we will show a “senior highlight” video to celebrate the class of 2020. In order to make our video special, we are asking students to submit videos and pictures that can be featured in the video. The pictures and videos can be submitted via the Class of 2020 Google Classroom. Please click this () to see how students from the Class of 2020 can join the Google Classroom. The join code is cr7vqbi.
The Scripps Ranch Falcon family would like to congratulate the entire class of 2020 and let you know how proud we are of you during these challenging times. We know you are missing your friends and other senior activities, but wanted to make sure we recognized those students that have been awarded Community Scholarships, Department Achievement Awards, 4.0 Scholars, National Merit Semifinalist/Finalist, Valedictorians, and Salutatorians. Recipients of these awards will be posted on the Scripps Ranch High School Counseling website https://srhscounseling.wixsite.com/scripps-ranch Thursday May 28th at 4:00 p.m. We miss seeing you and wish we could celebrate with you. Congratulations to all of you and we wish you continued success in the pursuit of your future goals.
Class of 2020 / Final Transcript Request
Seniors requesting final transcripts must add the college to Naviance in the “colleges I am applying to” section (if you have not done so already) and request the transcript electronically through Naviance. Additionally, please click this () to complete the google transcript request form.
Class of 2020 Shout Outs (Senior Standouts)
With seniors missing out on some senior activities that come with the milestone of graduating high school, we want to do whatever we can to make them feel special as we wait to see what can take place. To honor your senior on our SRHS Instagram page, click this () to fill out the Google Form. Students themselves can fill out the form as well. We’re asking for a senior quote, a favorite memory, future plans, and most importantly, a picture. We’re hoping to get a lot of participation so if you don’t want to share a quote, a memory or future plans, just put “NA” in the form and fill out what you would like. We will then post on the SRHS Instagram page to honor your senior.
Grad Nite Refund Update
A message from the SRHS Foundation: The ticket refunds are still in process. Please disregard the Facebook post on 5/14 stating refund checks were being mailed. Thanking you in advance for your continued patience as 405 individual payments are being processed. Every ticket holder will receive a refund check. If you did not respond to the email request for address information, checks will be mailed to the address that was registered with the High School. IF YOU HAVE MOVED SINCE NOVEMBER 2019, please send an updated address to Contact Linda using this link.
Cap and Gown Pick Up Procedure
Late last week we were provided guidelines for how we can distribute caps, gowns and diploma covers to our seniors. We are in the process of finalizing these details while adhering to the safety guidelines established by the county. The caps and gowns will be distributed before June 9th so you can take pictures of your grad. I will send out these details as soon as possible.
Senior Textbook and Material Return
Similar to cap and gown distribution, late last week we were provided guidelines for how seniors can return textbooks and other materials. We are in the process of finalizing these details while adhering to the safety guidelines established by the county. I will send out these details as soon as possible.

Summer School Update
Summer School for 2020 will be taking place virtually using district-issued Chromebooks and Edgenuity online courses. Students will complete all work at home and will not be reporting to a school site. Counselors will automatically enroll any students who have an “F” on their transcript into summer school. A summer school online registration and opt-out form will be sent to all enrolled students on May 21st. Students will begin courses on Monday, June 22nd and will conclude on Friday, July 31st. Information for device distribution and online courses access will be sent later this month.
If your child previously requested to take a summer school at a school site, they will automatically be enrolled into an online course. If your child did not request summer school and would now like the chance to remediate a “D” grade, please have them contact their counselor by May 20th.
If you have questions regarding summer school course offerings, please contact your child’s respective counselor.
1. Please click this () for the collection procedure for 9 – 11th graders who need to turn in athletic equipment or AFJROTC/Athletic uniforms. Please be sure you attend on your assigned day. If you can’t’ make it, Tuesday, May 26th is the makeup day to return these supplies. Again, this is just for uniforms and athletic equipment for students in grades 9 - 11. Textbooks and other materials will be returned at a later date.
2. Please click this () and share with your senior students so they can join the Class of 2020 Google Classroom and share their pictures and videos for the “senior highlight” video.
3. Click this () to fill out the Google Form for your senior standout (students can fill out themselves as well). Lets honor every senior on our social media page!!
4. If your child did not request summer school and would now like the chance to remediate a “D” grade, please have them contact their counselor by May 20th.
That is all I have for today. Have a great week!
